View Full Version : Reasons you love SH4
Write things you like about it;
1. Pacific Theater, US subs
2. People walking on the decks of ships and not just standing there
3. South Pacific weather
4. The renown system. Outfitting your submarine with the best equipment and crew is really cool. Gives you a feeling of "getting to know" your crew.
5. Damage to other ships and you know when you hit an auxiliary freighter because the sky erupts into one amazing fireball.
6. Not knowing what to expect where you go hunting, just what really IS lurking in that harbor?
these are just a few
PS. I'm running a geforce 6800 on medium settings and this sim is still awesome.
EDIT=
this should be under reasons to like and not like sh4. sorry.

heh, that is my background screen right now:rotfl:
i like SH4 because it is in the Pacific theater. i never was interested in SHIII because it was in the Atlantic theater, never bought it!.
i know that sh4 will sell more in the long run because America buys the games.
there are vast amounts of people just like me who love sub simulations and were just put off by the lack of a pacific game..
as long as them great Romainians fix the hard-coded stuff, this game will rock for years to come.
i am very happy with my purchase and will enjoy this game for a very very long time!!!
EDIT: no, i am not a fanboy. i just see what this game will be after a new patch and some mods:]

1. Awesome new ship models and transparent water :up:
2. Wonderful, wonderful 3D damage :up:
3. Great crew management system (RELIEVE THE WATCH! :huh: ):up:
4. Using the TDC (feels much more intuitive than SH3, PK is a nice feature):up:
ALL in all...:rock:
And the patches will come.:arrgh!:

Hi,
Well you named off a few of my favorites already....
1) PTO and U.S. Subs! :rock:
2) 2. People walking on and doing stuff on the decks of ships
3) Harbor Traffic
4) Well done realistic TDC (although a few bugs right now)
4) New Crew Management
5) New Damage Control will be good I think when a few of it's kinks get worked out
6) A fairly good portion of the game/sim is made so that modding is possible
7) Good graphics without needing to high of system specs, although desperately in need of higher resolutions and anti-aliasing(blocky, jaggy, and shimmering all over the place)
8) I dig the post processing effects
Cheers

And the patches will come.:arrgh!:
Is it just me or should the word "Patch" never be used to describe a "Sub" sim?
Maybe we should call them "Damage Control Data.":lol:

This is the reason I'm not online in here so much: I'm playing the game and I just love the game ( including the "quirks" it has).
The reasons are many. It was 100% nostalgic trip back to the first game that started it all. Who can deny that?!?!

yo,
I have that same video card!
2.8Ghz P4 single core running with 2 gigs of PC3200 RAM and a whimpy power supply to boot (HP factory machine).
SH4 is running sweet. It lags a bit in big battles (Leyte Gulf mission for example), but not to the point of shutting me down. I'm not set to low graphics, but I don't have the extra enviromental effects, post filter and all enabled.
Game loads up in a minute or less.
* PTO US Boats.
* Watch officer automatically goes back up top when I surface. (no more babysitting.)
* Crew rotations. (see above.)
* Binocs automatically capture the screen when selected. (a little thing but handy.)
* Crew on target ships. (why do they wear suits and ties BTW? I've seen alot of fishermen in my day, none ever wore a suit and tie.:lol: )
* Moonlit nights are a thing of beauty now.
* Changing weather.
* Real fog. (you have to get real close to id targets now.)
* Variety of missions.

The graphics are nice.
Beautiful graphics; new theater; new mission types; greatly improved game mechanics (e.g. no more having to babysit crew or be forced into 256x max TC to have air cover working properly); great manual TDC and a really awesome (once filled up by the modders) radio feature.

I'd agree with most of the above. SH4 has alot going for it but the issues, aieee! At this point I bounce back and forth between SH4 and SH3. I want to play SH4 but problems with audio (probably not SH4's fault - I'm a Vista using idiot with a creative sound card), graphic stutters and tearing and the CTDs send me back to SH3. But I always end up coming back. Can't stay away for many of the reasons others have already noted.
I'll add one more to the list, SH4 got me back into subsimming after a long time away and also inspired me to pick up SH3 (along with GWX and SHCommander). For that alone it's worth the price of entrance and hopefully my issues with it will be sorted out eventually.
