Alright, so my current patrol is sector BF32. Where is that? Right in the Straight of Dover between Portsmouth and Brighton. The one place everyone says not to go! So...what're my chances of actually getting there? :hmm:

Do I just ignore my orders in the interest of my crew and suffer court marshall? Or perhaps just stalk the opening of the straight for a few days taking down whatever merchants I can? Thoughts?

So far I did down a 2,000 ton passenger/cargo ship entering the straight. That'll teach him.

Is this still 1939?

I would stay submerged during the day. From all accounts, hug the French Coast. Once you get past Dover, things should get better. I never done that jaunt, someone who has should pop up.

Had this during my Type II days. The best advice I can think is to use SH3 commander and change your patrol grid.

Depending on the year, if you are playing when France is still very much alive and kicking, submerged by day, surface by night. If France is beaten. Then hug the french coastline and maybe play it safe by staying under during the day.

The biggest problem in this region are Elcos and planes. Both will riddle the boat with bullets faster than you can say "swiss cheese" Be very careful but with a bit of caution you should get through in one piece.

Yeah, I'm submerged and silent running, but don't see anyway I'm gonna make this with limited battery and gas and such. Sumberged is great, but in a IIA you can only stay sumbered for an hour or two tops. Not helping to get through these patrol areas. Looks like I might have to just forgo the orders and kill merchants where I stand a little more chance. Or give it my all and reload ;)

Its hilarious. The Dover Straight is so bad that even in 39 you basically have to play like its 44 when you're in there.:rotfl::rotfl: Oh lordy. My advice is to be extremely conservative. Get in, take your 24 hours, get out and find some nice juicy targets back along the NE coast of England.

Or yea, be a rebel and forego your reknown.:hmm:

I got a decent ways in, but then couldn't handle the stress. I'm pretty sure the men were about to mutiny from all the warship contacts we were getting. At least a dozen of them as far in as we went. Finally I gave the order to turn around and we got our butts out of there. Ended up sailing up the coast of eastern England and picking off over 20,000 tons. Managed to find 2 big tankers  There was also a HUGE convoy that started up the eastern coast that I got word of, but I had no more fish at that time. Must have been at least 10 merchants and only 3 warships...would have been easy pickings....except for the fact that they were pretty close in to the coast and the water only has a depth between 25-40 meters there. Probably hard to "go deep" and avoid the DDs so probably for the best.:yep:

That is some very diciplined Kaleunship. You know how to be prudent as a IIA captain, thats for sure.

Very good, Card. You managed to get out ahead and get some decent tonnage--Good judgement.
