I don't want one. Why should I want one?
Who has an LCD monitor?
So they're faster now. But are they fast enough? Or will I see ghosts in movies and fast-refreshing games? And do they look as good as a good CRT? Or are they "weird"? Like Plasma screens that have their own unique "weird" quality. I've never stared at one for long. I've never used one long enough to judge it. What about resolutions? I've heard people had problems with HoI-Doomsday because the game's resolution conflicted with the monitor's.
Who has an LCD monitor, has played fast-paced 3D games with it (flight sims, racing, FPS, etc) and is genuinely satisfied with it?

I'm satisfied with my LCD screen  Its crisper, sleeker, and it hasnt got a fat ass like a regular CRT, so you get more space

LCD monitors are class very thin and crisp and give great picture quality. Much better than a standard monitor.

I bet you would give your right arm for a Trinitron, instead of your (and mine) crisp LCD.:shifty:

Samsung 931B 19" for $220 at Best Buy. Works prefect for games and work. SH4 looks out of this world.

And because Neal recommends it, it must be essential! :arrgh!:

I'm just using my laptop's LCD monitor. I've run flight sims. It works. The image quality is more than acceptable even in alternate resolutions some games force the LCD to run at.
These days, unless you do precision color-matching in Photoshop (they hadn't completely solved the problem of LCD monitors looking a bit different depending on viewing angle, though I actually like being able to "finetune" my viewing experience by changing the position of my monitor), there are few reasons not to get a LCD.
I looked into the possibility of geting an LCD display a while back and more recently too.
I reached the conclusion that for what I need a monitor for would not be best served by the currently available LCD screens.
Uses: CAD and general gaming. With what I do for work every day I cannot afford to use something which might cause eye strain (any more than you would expect to get from staring at a monitor for 5-7 hours a day )
At work we use 19" CRT Iiyamas (dual monitors) which do a very good job, despite their relative age in terms of technology. Currently the only LCD jobbies that might come close to the performance I require, are terribly expensive and even then I'm not totally convinced they are going to be as good with resolution and refresh rates when I compare it to my tried and tested CRT beast. Perhaps in another several years I might look again and see what's available when the LCD technology has matured a bit.
What it comes down to for me is the quality of the image; I'm not saying that there are no 'good' LCD monitors out there, but I still recon the old CRT has the advantage where clarity and spectrum of the image is paramount. The only downside (and conversly the upside for current LCD monitors) is the weight, space and power consumption of CRT displays.
I will concede that there are a lot of LCD displays for sale at bargain prices, but I think this is a reflection of their quality in respect of all the areas I deem important criteria when selecting a display.
Did you know, when Neal Stevens wants popcorn, he breathes on Nebraska? BRAKING NEWS:
Chuck Norris revealed today that his parents have a secret love child, hitherto unknown to himself and his legion of roundhouse kicking devotees, until vast acres of corn were mysteriously turned into popcorn. Sources close to Mr Norris have reported his as saying 'only a blood relative of mine would be capable of such a phenomona and as it wasn't me it's the only conclusion that can be drawn.'
In other news today, the stock market has recorded record trading in salt, butter and toffee. Brokers are speculating this has to do with the now hunderds of acres of poped corn snack food that continue to grow accross the major agricultural areas of the country.

LCD do not cause eye strain, only CRT do and old style 'yube' teles.

Unless you use it at a resolution that's not in the design of the LCD. In this case, it has to interpolate and thus the image can become a bit fuzzy - over a long time, fuzzy images can cause eyestrain.

Lol, ok, good one
The newer LCDs are plenty good enough for gaming, you'll be happy when you try it.

I have the same problem. For image quality and multiple resolutions, you can't beat a good CRT. OK, an LCD gives a sharper image at its native resolution, but considering the money spent on antialiasing that's not always a good thing.
The problem today seems to be finding a good CRT. They're still available, if you have room and money for a 21" or bigger monster designed for CAD work. Smaller sizes seem to be hard to get, except for very low budget and very low quality stuff. If I had to get a new monitor in the 17-19" range now, I'd probably try LCD just because it's going to be very hard to find a good CRT.

19" monitors have excellent response times these days, across the whole colour gamat. It is when you get to the 24/27/32" monitors that response time becomes a problem.
There is also some deception in the marketing specifications (now, there's a revelation!). The response times are usually listed for grey-to-grey, which is usually the absolute fastest color change that a monitor can do, and does not take into account "overdrive" which can also cause ghosting from pixels going past their intended state.
19" monitors made from 2005-2007 will have excellent response times. 24" monitors and larger are just now getting into <25ms across their entire color gamat -- many 2005 and 2006 models used to peak near 30ms.
