Took forever to get back to port and I had to constantly make sure I was blowing ballast but I made it back in one piece and then received my Gato class.

Plane?
I took a two holes by a Destroyer, yet recieved extremely little component damage, despite there being two garing holes in the aft of my S-class.

thats just daft. i know B17 bombers used to fly home and land full of holes but things work are a little different under the ocean. everytime i check out these forums i keep findin reasons not to buy SH4 at least until the next patch is out or some groundbreakin mods come out that turn this "game" into a "sim"

All that tells me is the skin damage is purely artistic, which isn't really a surprise.
There needs to be some cololation between whats seen on the ship and whats happening inside it.
I got back to fremantle with two holes in my ship, yet there was no flooding.
if the pressure hull is not damaged, you should not have any flooding.
I cant really see on the picture if this is the case or not.
But the hydrodynamic (wet) hull can still be damaged without any incidence on the pressure hull integrity !

Pretty much par for the course for most games in fact.

Hmm, ofcourse there is lots of piping that can burst and flanges that can start leaking. That will cause flooding too. So one CAN have flooding with an intact pressure hull.

Also if one of the main ballast tanks is ruptured, you may not have flooding but the only direction you're going is down.

Looks like the command room and crews quarters may get a little drafty...

like i said if i tried to go underwater at all i would start sinking so maybe ubisoft intended on a little realism if not for skin damages

QFT... it took me awhile to get out of denial on that one. But I agree.
I've taken a hole like that from mechant guns and nothing showed up on the DC screen, I could manuver/dive with no problems.
