My old IBM monitor died and I thought it was a good opportunity to upgrade this old Sony Multiscan E200. I have a Phillips 109B CRT in another PC and I found it to be a decent choice. It has some minor flaws. It looks weird and definitely worse than my Sony 17" Multiscan E200. Facts that are compensated by the bigger size (19" vs 17") and cheaper price.

So I bought a newer version of the Phillips 109B to replace this Sony E200. To my surprise I found out that this new 109B is actually worse than the old 109B.

All the issues the old 109B had are worse in this new 109B. The image looks even worse, it's now butt-ugly. Text isn't crispy clear like in this Sony, it's mildly blurred. Moiré is completely out of control. And I can't get the screen to look straight at all. Flat screen MY ASS! This Sony monitor has a flat screen. Nearly perfectly flat, except for tiny minor curves at each edge, hardly noticeable. However, the new 109B is COMPLETELY curved. It took me seconds to fine-tune the Sony monitor after re-installing it. But I've spent nearly an hour in the Phillips trying to get it to look straight and I failed miserably. Mission impossible. The task-bar is completely curved, no matter what I do.

Beware of the 109B line. Look at each model individually because some are better than others. And NEVER buy a monitor through the internet. Go to the store and stare at it in operation. Watch if the image is any good. And forget about considering Phillips as a first option. You should only turn down on Sony if you can't afford them.

One might also consider a Samsung. Been using them for years, as have my friends, and I can't recall a single problem with an LCD or CRT made by them.

At least you didn't by an LG.

It may have affected T.V.'s here in Australia, but I have heard people have problems with other products made by them.

There have been problems with LG tv's that have a digital tuner inbuilt in them here in Australia. It Freezes when watching one channel (the program most at fault was CSI!).

They siad it was the broadcasters fault, the broadcaster said it was the makers fault. LG finaly owned up and said it was a software problem and that they would fix it at no cost, but it may take up to three months. They then expanded the number of models that were affected by it. Other people have now come forward and said models outside of the ones listed are also affected.

I think LG is going to loose a lot of sales here in Australia!!!

Cannot find this model at PC Magazine (http://www.pcmag.com/products/0%2C%2Ctqs%3D5B0A0CE8429BBEC04FA946367480DEB1BF033 7DF%2C00.asp?action=defaultadvancedquery&cid=26265&sid=26265&gridtitle=Search%20Results&googlequery=q%3d%26start%3d0%26num%3d10%26cs%3d487 %26mt823%3d21049%26c%3d1440&stpdinglp=1). I usually rely on their reviews.

The electronic brand Philips only has one L, I believe. I wish not to be associated with inferior technological products ;)
