Welcome!
Note that we also have a small forum for helicopter sims, and for tank sims.
If you are in Naval stuff exclusively, and modern subs, Dangerous waters is the one to go for. Or the predecessor Sub command, if you can pick it up for smile price. check the related forums.
If you are in historical subs (WWII), you can choose between Silent Hunter III with a very good and massive mod (900+ MB) GFX, and the recently released Silent hunter 4. The advantage of the first is that it is well-modded and freed of many bugs, while the latter (SH4) still is in the patching phase. If the patching is properly done and all bugs eliminated, the future will be bright. I personally have choosen to stay with SH3 for the months to come, for it will take them that long to clean the sim, I'm sure. Check the related forums.
If you are in for tanks, the king of modern stuff is Steel beasts Professional PE, any questions on that and I'll be your obedient servant; while WWII-related there is a promising title in the making, to be released hopefully soon. Visit the tank forum, which is a calm place, but links to many substantial ressources for SBP.
Helicopters: I stay with Longbow 2 for the moment. There is confusion, hope and caution being circulated concerning Enemy Engaged 2. But not much solid info on that. Try the helicopter forum, which also is a quite place currently.
Strategy games an option for you?
P.S. Your specs will run all the mentioned sims fine, with the exception of SH4, which in principle also will be run by you system, but currently creates odd and massive brakedowns in frames with some spec-combinations, it seems. Not all are affected in the same way. Check the forum.
P.P.S. What racing sims have you thought of? I'm a GTR2 and RBR man, maybe I can talk you back into it

Hello there, welcome to the forum.
I agree with Skybird, for sheer quality, Silent hunter III and you can then choose some game mods form the mod workshops, or even plunge for a supermod like GWX or WAC
GWX and a big sexy IX Boat.
Welcome to the club.
Welcome aboard Captain!!! Good recommendations there so nothing to add just hello. :arrgh!:

Dangerous waters is a good modern subsim the latest one the one i personaly use, SH3 and 4 are good old time subsims depends what you want modern or war time.
Note just cause its a modern subsim doesnt mean you wont get to sink anything it is just alot more complex.

Silent hunter 3 would be the best game for you at the moment as it's the one with all the mods and patches that make it one of the best out there. After playing stock SH3 for awhile you may want to try out the GWX super mod, as it makes a good game an excellent game.
SH4 is recommended, but still has some bugs in it which are being worked out at the moment.

Since nobody else mentioned it:
SH3 is German U-boats, with GWX operations cover more or less the whole globe
SH4 is US Fleet boats in the Pacific

Welcome aboard Captain. Beware the White Whale. There will come a day when you will smell land where there be no land. On that day Ahab will go to his death. But he will rise again within the hour & beckon. And all, save one, will follow him. I know for I, alone, am left alive to tell thee the tale.
Welcome to subsim, I'd like to introduce you to one of our Senior Members, Bernard he will be following you around alot as he does all of us....

Is there a toggle switch or a jumper plug for that? I never knew. :hmm:
Welcome, HD! ;) Enabled mom of 7 here.
Out of curiousity and seriously, did you chose your forum name based on your disability? Are you chair-bound?
SH3 has been great fun. Looking forward to SH4 and to ARMA (http://www.armedassault.com/) (have you played ARMA or OFP?), once I get a new high-end system, hopefully within the next 6 months.

Get Silent Hunter 3 & Silent Hunter IV. Play SH3 without any mods till you know the ropes. Like most have said here try the Greywolves (GW1.1a or GWX) Then your name Capt Halfdead will really mean that when you play them :D

Dear, SH2 and DC are still great games,
very enjoyable.
SH1 is still competitive verssus Strategical play of SH4
and very keen 2D interfaces and instruments,
more advanced than sh4
But maybe SH4 ...time and patch, time and patch,
now no, don't take SH4 and wait
Welcome
Welcome to SubSim captain. One small piece of advice though - it may not be a great idea to post your e-mail address on the main forum, as there are bots which regularly reap forums like this in search of them for spamming purposes.:88) Sending a private message (PM) is the best way to communicate on this (or any) forum.
