I'm on my 6th patrol and I periodically get radio mesages I haven't a clue about.
The content is:
From: FROM
To:_To Message Content
What is this? Is this an Enigma message? I don't see anywhere in the game where I deal with decoding messages. Wierd. :o

I don't have a clue. I use Irishred's Radiolog mod, so I get a lot of historic messages that have nothing to do with the game, but I've never recieved anything like that.

Are you by any chance near Bergen, Norway when you get those?
I have had some of those messages and always outside of Bergen:hmm:

Well, as for me, only the Sh3Cmdr. GWX 1.03 installed but have not been near Bergen since installing Sh3 on this machine, been fighting in the Med:up:
I have just started a new career in the 7´th so Í will probably pass by Bergen soon.
There is a screenie in the humorous picture thread, if you can find it:rock:

I'm just running the basic SHIII, no mods. I am however on Patrol during Germany's invasion of Norway. Trondheim is in Blue and Bergen is stil in red. It's April 20, ten days after hostilities started there. I'm actually in the Irish sea. I just did a night excursion into Loc Ewe, downed a destroyer hunting me and downed a destroyer docked in port. Still out there, no one's killed me yet. Got three fish left to shoot.

correction; my game is modded in that I did download the 1.4 patch off the ubisoft website. Not to say I won't try GWX in the future though, I will, a matter of time.

this seems to be a intermitent prob which i have found out has happened in vanilla sh3 and modded sh3 so sorry guys there seems to be no ryhme nor reason as to what and how and where oh and ive heard from people who hve had it all over the atlantic.
Yes, I've recently had my first 'blank' radio message. I'd not had one before, but in stock SH3 there are very few scripted radio messages anyway!
From the date and time, I found that it should have been the message about Trondheim being open for operations. It's in the "SH3\data\Campaigns\Campaign\messages_en.txt" file, to be transmitted from April 19th 1940 till April 21st 1940. In the usual fashion, I got the message repeatedly every time I reloaded my patrol until the end date:
19400419 1200 19400421 1200 1 100 60 ^...^A new submarine base is available in the port of Trondheim, of the coast of Norway.||Bdu
I don't know if it affects all stock installations since one of the patches introduced the feature for a 'from' and 'to' field (format: @FROM@ ^TO^). Since only the 'to' field is present (i.e. ^...^), I think the game doesn't read the radio message properly. That, or my installation is slightly broken, but it's stock SH3 1.4 with a minimum amount of cosmetic mods.
The only two previous radio messages in the stock campaign are these:
@Naval High Command@^German forces at sea^Commence hostilities against Britain forthwith||Raeder
@Naval High Command@^...^The port of Danzig is available for operations once again.
As you see, the 'from' & 'to' fields are entered between the @@ and ^^ symbols for these messages. These came through without a problem.
There are a number of mods out there to add more radio messages, and although I haven't installed one, they do all have the 'from' and 'to' fields filled in for every radio message, so it's probably necessary to avoid this issue. In that case, it's a glitch that the developers introduced by adding the from/to fields and forgetting to update their own messages_en.txt!

Thanks for all your input. This is one of many threads I've bookmarked on my browser. Good Hunting, and may we all live to 50 years in the future when we can prognosticate on the History Channel about our patrols!
