View Full Version : Fake FPS ?

It always seemed from day one that the ACTUAL game performance was quite a bit less than the FPS displayed. I never really tested in 1.0.

I play a lot of games and I know what certain FPS feels like, and this game doesn't feel like 50 or 30 fps to me. It feels like 25 and 15.

This brings me to my main point.
Enabling V-sync cuts the frames exactly in half, and my suspicion is that THIS is the ACTUAL fps game performance we get instead of what the meter shows.

In my ususal test map (Navigational Tutorial) I get 65 in the Command Room and 34 on the Bridge, no V-sync.
With V-sync on I get 33 in Command Room and 15 on the Bridge, BUT...IT FEELS THE SAME AS WHEN THE METER SHOWS 65/35.

What is going on here? I suspect that this graphics engine has not been optimized properly.

When guys with uber rigs SYNC and display smooth 40, it doesn't bother them because they start with 80 (which is actually faked 40, it appears.), but it certainly hurts someone who shows 30 and in reality only gets 15.

Can someone very these observations, please?

Thanks

Fraps was showing 1-2 fps higher than the game fps meter for me.
I think its resonably acurate

I used Fraps and In game meter.

What I am saying is that the actual game performance is half of what the meters show.
