What's the word on the street? Can this be true?

Labour faces meltdown as SNP heads for power

The SNP is heading for victory in the Scottish parliamentary elections on May 3, in what would be a severe blow to Gordon Brown shortly before he becomes Prime Minister, an opinion poll for The Times suggests today.

SNP is leading the Polls at the moment, followed by Labour, Independent then Conservative.
The Tories always come last up here.

I'll wait till they call the results.

Many times the SNP look good and then they lose it at the last minute.

Do I think the SNP will benefit Scotland, no.

They get good headlines but most Scots I work and live with dont think independence for Scotland would be a good thing.

Also I guess you have been reading in the press that there have been various articles by various people that the SNP are an inherently racist party. Salmond might not be but there are more than likely many members who are.

There also seems to be this theme running through the SNP that it is OK to be governed by anyone as long as it isn't Westminster ergo England. This is in response to Salmond saying that should Scotland gain independence he will throw his lot in with a centralised EU government.

I am just wondering if the SNP has peaked to early in the polls and from here on there will be a fall off, if that's the case the question is by how much? There seems to be no news down here how Labour is going to handle this election. It's true to say we will see a drop off on the Labour vote up and down the land, main area of damage sounds like from Scotland so this will be the main area of interest.

Next month which is almost here should show if the SNP goes up or down in the polls, it's true to say polls only show a guide line and that's all. It's casting your vote and how many voted that counts.

It will be interesting but Mr Salmond refuses to give answers to how much moving to independence will cost people, how much we have to tighten our belts.

Also some in the SNP mooted the idea of a test similar to what immigrants to the UK have to now take.

Also what would happen to people like me who moved here 20 years ago but my son was born in Scotland a year ago. Would I automatically qualify for citizenship or would I have to go through a whole bureucratic process to get citizenship. Scots people are more wise to the bigger picture than Salmond and the SNP give them credit.

I seem to remember One of the SNP claiming that Citizenship for other brits living in Scotland would be automatic - i don't know what conditions they attached and I can't remember how long ago it was. Give citizen ship to everyone in the country is what I think. Might get a couple of decent footballers out of it at last...:rotfl:

Besides, I don't think it will make any difference to you (or a post independance Scot Living in London.) You have the same rights to work here as I do under EU law. I don't know about EU voting regulations but I'm sure legally you would be entitled to vote as well.

Personally I think that the SNP will win and enter into a coalition with the Liberals. I also think that once they get a taste of it you might start seeing lots of excuses for putting of the independance vote.
