Just checking did submarines have external lights. It appears that the conning tower has what looks like a spotlight....
Certain times it is so dang dark that I can't see anything and would like the option to turn on a spotlight.

Yes, I believe they did. It does look like a light up there. If so it does not work.

No pun intended just a mere question, why would you want to give away your position like that?

Not saying that I want to give away my location....
But here is an example.
I sink a enemy vessel that was straggling along by itself - at night. Since no other ship is around I shine my spotlight on those poor souls in the lifeboat while I use them as target practice

I suppose a signal light with the shutters opened or taken off could be used as a small search light.

I've wondered about that too, the only way I've been able to target stuff is by turning up the gama and it looks like crap.I mean if it's a merchant then who cares if you turn on a spot light cause it's not like it will Chase you around with DCs if you miss :p.Sure they'll alert any near by naval vessels but 1.) They'll have a hell of a time tracking you if they get there late and 2.) Its just more tonnage to sink :rotfl:.I am all for a spot light that works, whether it's historically accurate or not :).

But if a merchant sees you, it will start to zigzag, making it much harder to torp sometimes. BUT if you really want to light up the area, use the star ammo on your deck gun. It sends up a flare that lights up the area for a little bit. (At least, this ammo was in SH3, I haven't actually looked to see if it's included in SH4)
Dont you have star shells? (I don't have the game yet so I dunno whats available?
i dont think star shells are in sh4.
I used to like using them just for kicks, to see the lovely effect.
Oh is that the time, gotta run .............therapy is due.

So is it possible to add such a "light function" to the subs?
I would be happy, and it would take me deeper into the war

I do not know. Mod if you can.
Anyway, the light was used to search for men overboard or downed pilots. Probably used while in harbor. Things like that. They certainly did not drive around with it on for fun:doh:
A Spot Light Would Come In Handy In The Fog When Looking For Surviors It Should Be Added More Realistic After All Dd's Have Them Right?
