View Full Version : 1x patrols are long!

Hi there!

I thought about those 1x time compression patrollers out there and tried to find some reasonable arguments against doing it:

+ Costs
+ Climate

Think about the climate! Playing computergames? Fine. But please stick in front of the computer already, why wasting electricity by keeping the machine on at all night where nothing is happening? And when you come back the game crashes or you are dead somehow anyway.

It also saves YOUR money if you turn your computer of if you are not in front of it.

(if your computer is doing other things like offering services, downlading etc it's of course something different).

+ Time

It takes long enough to get to Hokkaido and Midway without time compression already! Why wait longer??

+ Missing the action

Want to wait 85 real live hours before getting finally to the action and then just dying or missing the torps? No way :)

Hm more things I cannot find :) Don't take too serious :))

I started a 1xTC patrol, but after 1½ hours, I noticed that while I´m ALT+TABed and doing something else on my PC, the time pauses in SHIV. Either that, or the in-game clock stops. As the time was still 09:41 after 1½ hour.

Thank god you said something. I was just about to quit my job, kick my girlfriend out and put my cats up for adoption. I just thought it was the patriotic thing to do in service of my country. You are a real lifesaver!

1x patrols on Sh4 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: , when i first played it i became surprised because i didint had idea how far is from pearl harbour to the japanese coast, in Sh3 i never pass from 128x but in Sh4 i found that compression even at 8000x isnt enough its plain boring to travel so far without seeing any action so you have to be kind of lunatic to play SH4 at 1x:huh: .

Its the one thing about the sim that has me not jumping into the next mission right away. Long trip even at high CT at 1/3 speed to save fuel it still take a good half hour to get near Japan, even then you run into convoys about 2,000km out and though I thought about doing mission 1st then attacking ships I said you fight where ever.

And with no torps left and if you luck at least 4 or 5 sinkings, its another 30min trip back to reload. I did it once, I used my torps before I even got to my patrol station, so I went back to MW and topped up. On my 2nd attempt I still didn't get to my patrol station. I did sink 76,000 worth and when I got back to PH I thought about going back to complete the mission and turn the star grey, but I had been gone near 3 months and I could not going back out for a 3rd attempt at it. Doesn't feel right not to complete the mission, but thought of another hour or so travel on top of the more than 2hrs of 1/3 even at CT, I didn't want to do it...

To me the feeling between SH4 and SH3 is , in 4 the war is on the other side of the pacific and when you get to where the war is , as it were, you fling a few punches and leave. In 3 you have the feeling you are at the heart of the war all the time. That and the different atmospheres in your Uboat compared to your US Sub is totally different, for me in sh3 you are surround by your crew and you are in that uboat. In sh4 I feel that I'm on the outside looking in and pressing buttons, I don't get the same feeling of being there. And that was even before I put GWX 1.02 in..

LOL think about the climate.... /sigh

Uhhh yea your power bill will go up but probably more important is that your going to gum up your fans/heat sinks much sooner leading to hardware failure. Now thats gonna cost you some money.

1x play? You guys HAVE to be kidding me. The average US Pacific patrol until the fuel and provisions ran out was 35-45 days. One mission. Somebody on this planet really has that kind of time to spare? Are you getting paid to play?

I'm currently running a 1x shakedown cruise between Pearl and Midway. I figure by the time I get there I might have some ability to manipulate the UI, learn how to turn on my radar, learn how to use the sonar, learn how to do crew management, learn how to increase my FPS, download the next two patches and throw in a few mods for good measure.

And then I'll use TC and sail into Tokyo Bay for a rumble with Mr. Tojo!

I was thinking the same thing ever since I read some guide and the dude that wrote it mentioned "you are playing at 1x aren't you?" and I was like - "is he serious?"

Does anyone here actually do it?

Only Codmander, I guess, but he refuses to buy the game.
