Hi, I'm new to this forum myself though a longtime peruser of reviews, relatively new to the more modern Silent Hunter products (III and IV) because my old PC lacked a DVD drive, and new to my new Vista powered Dell XPS laptop.
So, defying the tide of complaints I boldly forged ahead and picked up SHIV (and it seems I'm not the only one - top selling PC game, who saw that coming?). Since I just started playing vanilla SHIII (that array of mods is pretty daunting) a couple days ago both experiences are fresh in my mind. So far, I have to say I liked the interactivity of SHIII much more but SHIV captures a real tropical/Pacific feel with how they've handled the graphics. The high contrast images, the grainy/humid feeling interiors, sheer bloody genious.
But the bugs are killing me. So I tried to install the 1.1 patch.
Here's what the Installshield told me:

I haven't seen anyone else posting about this but I'd be grateful for any help I can get. Thanks. I am running in Vista, as I noted, and this patch is talking about XP Service Pack 2....could that be a problem? Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work in either XP Compatibility mode or as an administrator.
