View Full Version : Any possibility of SP "adversarial mission" support being added?

SH4's multiplayer "adversarial mode" - which allows one player to command surface ships whilst the others control the attacking subs - could be used to create some interesting "Fighting Steel" type SP missions. However, it seems like there's currently no way to access it in single player.

It isn't possible to create SP missions like this using the editor (as there appears to be no actual scripting involved for the adversarial mode - it's all hard-coded, you just need to select the "multiplayer game type" setting - which has no effect in a SP mission).
Creating a LAN game offline is not possible, as the game does not allow you to start an "adversarial mode" server with only 1 player (you can do this in co-op mode, but not adversarial mode)

Is there any way that this could be changed in a future patch? Simply allowing a LAN adversarial game to be started with only 1 player would probably be sufficient - anything more would probably require too much coding time for such a minor feature (as it would require changes to the GUI etc.) This certainly appears to be something that is hard-coded and cannot be changed by modding.

I know that there's no submarine AI in the game - I'm thinking more of missions where the player commands surface ships fighting against AI surface ships. With careful use of waypoints to compensate for the AI's deficiencies in this area (the ship-vs-ship AI is probably fairly limited as the game is focused on ship-vs-sub combat) this should be easy to do.

Does anyone else have any interest in creating missions like this?
(Also, is this the correct forum to post in - do the SH4 developers read this board, or would I be better off posting it on the Ubisoft forums?)

Agree, this would be a great option and it seems it's almost there.
