View Full Version : Crew deaths due to weather & MORE!

Greetings!

Long time reader, with low posts here. I am really enjoying SH4, but I lost three crewmembers on my first patrol mission. It was horrible weather on the surface, but we had to surface and I tried keeping our speed slow during the bad weather.

I lost three crewmembers, under no attack - so I am guessing it was weather related. Is that actually in the game, or a bug? (If it is in, how can I avoid it later?!)

My patrol area was filled with heavy storms for several days, and I can't imagine just sitting there (submerged) for days and days waiting for it to clear.

In addition, my patrol was to take out merchant shipping. I took out a few fishing boats, as well as some kind of merchant vessel. I never got a "completed" stamp for the patrol. I did get a completed stamp for arriving the patrol area, but after days and days of crappy weather and only a couple of contacts - I went back to port.

I got the patrol medal out of it, but should I have stayed longer? Fuel concerns were starting to worry me, and although Midway Island is available for refueling...I was worried that just hanging out at sea would run us dry.

Thank you all again for letting me ramble, this forum has been most helpful over the years!

I have experienced the same in bad weather, but I thought that perhaps I had missed an air attack due to TC. (Improbable that aircraft could fly in such weather, but you can man the guns in it.) So you are not alone. As for the patrol completion, I have not yet worked that out. I made a patrol and sank over 72,000 tons of shipping, but I did not compelte the sink merchant shipping portion of the the mission. I am wondering if there is an undefined box or area in which the shipping is supposed to be sunk and ships outside that area are not counted toward completion?

Yes, it is related with a certain zone. I received a completed mission after I had a little over 10.000 tons, very close to the designated patrol area sign. Of course all lost in the end because I also killed the lifeboats :/

Are you sure it's weather? I've had issues with phantom crew injuries, and I seem to have confirmed that, if your deck is damaged, it will never fully repair (it might repair but then it becomes damaged again) and any crew put on deck will become injured, for no reason.

Basically, anytime my deck takes damage on a patrol, the patrol is ruined, because several crew will die before I make it back to base. Annoying.
