Heya all ive been lurking here for years just saw somthing very cool! launched a torp at a jap battle ship in the midway mission ond my last torp did a full 360. I just barrley missed getting hit by it. it was awsome. thats how my name sake lost his boat (richard "dick" OKane) the USS TANG. and how many belive the Wahoo was sunk! :up:

Read up the war record of the USS Tang on wikipedia. Very impressive hit rates, especially with those old MK14 type torps.

Unfortunately, I guess, the torp was faulty, possibly the rudder got stuck or something resulting in a full reversal.

It would be better if there were voices telling you
"Sir running straight(relaxed)"
"Sir, its torpedo is circling ! (panic)"
"Sir, your killing us ! (extreme panic)"

but its nice to have anyway.

I've not seen this yet (circling torps), but for the amount of fish I've let loose the failure rate seems to be a lot lower than in SH3...I got four duds in a row once on the same ship, but not a single dud in SH4 yet. I started my career in 1942, were the problems sorted by then?

I have circling torpedo twice so far.

Amusingly the first time it circled,closed,hit then got "Torpedo is a dud".

So i guess that torpedo was VERY broken :) Friday afternoon torpedo.

ive had some premature detentations, for instance i engaged a huge taskforce last night in march of '42. About 200nm off the coast of the phillpians , i had a perfect fire solution on a yammato BB (there was 2 in the TF).

I fired a spread of 4 torps, at high speed setting, @ 1500yrds. 1 torp dentented about 500yrds after leaving my boat. However the rest hit her, in the bow section, it took two more torps to finish her.

In that patrol i got my first 100ktons of the game!

1 Yamato
1 Hvy Crusier
1 Light Cruser (took only 1 torp :) )
1 HUGE Liner

All off the relative coast of phily... lucky patrol there, barely made it back to austraila, so many air partols , and i was in swallow water tryin to make a straight to make a short cut.
