I'm wondering why they opted to not put the models(A brief description) and specifications(Torpedo loadout, Total range on Surface, Submerged, etc.) of the different sub types in the manual. :hmm:

Yes and why did they NOT put it in the game either.....You could click on objects in SH3 like torps and other stuff and get a description of what there capabilities were. shame it's missing from SH4.

That's a great substitute, but I what i meant to ask was why the lack of any pertaining information, eg: Maximum range, dive time. Since Silent Hunter 3 was my first foray into the submaring aspect of WWII I thought the inclusion of facts surrounding the sub types was very useful.
Also a previous post pointed out the lack of any data with regards to the torpedos, now this I forgot to mention and i think is very useful. It told the gamer the type of propulsion used, the range, the problems with it's tracking method(earlier G3's, Accoustic guided)

I think part of the reason for the manual not listing them is the collectors edition comming with a recognition manual, the subs are probably listed in there.
IMO they could have at least had the american subs in the manual, and definatly the museum should have the info in there (I havent looked yet)

The sub information is listed in the recognition manual (I'm using the one included in the Deluxe Edition).
Here's a sample page from a Gato class:

Please excuse the poor photo (bad light, no flash and hand held at 1/40th sec).

You need a recognition manual to have the necessary data for your own Subs...

Flintlock, if you can be bothered, could you edit that list I posted and add the speeds and range ect ?...would be handy for us standard edition owners.
I notice the rec manual doesnt list dive times...but it changes aparently due to crew skill or somthing

I didn't look at the US subs in the museum, perhaps the similar specs are listed there?

I just checked the museum, if you open the rec manual some of the details are there, but it only shows surface speed, and the siloetts(sp) are missing.
No submerged speeds and range

I have the info on all subs (images from rec manual), just awaiting an okay to post 'em.

Odd, after reading this, and totally agreeing, I thought I would scan the CD and see if there was a PDF of the rec manual.
Since there was only the manual I scanned it a bit and came accross something really odd... In the difficulty options screen there is an option for weapon officer assistance AND the sound meter... There is even a screen shot of it...
For those of you that played SH3 Weapon officer assistance was great, it wasn't the auto targeting, you could ask the weapon officer for various vectors and details like speed of target or even to set up the whole shot for you... This way you can play realistic with a handycap sometimes for that really rare target you just don't want to miss.

it shouldnt be hard to add the speeds at least to the list I posted, I will write them down when I get a chance. range is a bit harder tho, but not really necesary since it will change depending on your flank, standard, slow setting.
