Ok, I'm new to the sub simulators. Just started playing Silent Hunter 3 and so far I think its absolutely awesome. I'm playing with the training missions right now and have a question about something that's occurred. So, I'm going along at say 15 knots or something. I order a full stop. Engage in some deck gun combat or something. Then I tell them to go ahead full. Nothing. The officer responds to my command, only the engines never turn on and never engage. I just keep drifting from my all stop command until I eventually stop. Then after a little while of being stopped, the command takes affect and the engines kick on. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I know for a fact if this happens in a combat situation I'm doomed. Thanks for any and all help.

I have had this two times when at 0 kts. The order is given, the gauge moves, but no sound and the ship stays at 0 kts. After chosing the other orders (1/3, slow) the ship at last suddenly started to react.

As far as I can tell it's a bug, but I'm not a very experienced player.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to always happen. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I was doing or something obvious I was forgetting. Guess if it happens in a mission I'll just have to play it over.

when your attacking a ship with the deck gun
dont stop the boat ,just move slow.

as the ship is moving too try to keep the distance 1500 meters from the target and shoot at the water line its more effective

Welcome, Cardician!

Check if your engine room is properly crewed (green bar at the top) With a new crew you will often have problems. On ships you also have a lag for the emgines to have effect on the vessel's movement.

Thanks. Good suggestions. And I didn't mean deck gun engagement specifically, it was just an example of something I've stopped for.

Welcome aboard, mate.

Then I tell them to go ahead full. Nothing. The officer responds to my command, only the engines never turn on and never engage. I just keep drifting from my all stop command until I eventually stop. Then after a little while of being stopped, the command takes affect and the engines kick on.

Yes. It also happens to me sometimes. The solution for an immediate start of engines is to order anythying else that full ahead, and the engines come to life. I use ahead flank, then immediately ahead full. Guess it's a stock bug, because I kept getting since the very beginning of sh3, mods or no mods.
