beat me to the post bluegolf.
Steps for gun purchase are as follows:
1. What do I (in this case YOU) plan to use this for?
2. According to that specific purpose (Home defense, trap, skeet, bird hunting, slug gun) does the firearm in question fulfill all the needs and withstand my requirements?
3.How often will I shoot this firearm? (Some last longer than others).
4. How much am I willing to spend (or how much can I get before the wife notices?)
5. What is the resale value, warranty, and popularity (feedback) of the firearm and are other people happy with what they got?
6. Give in to lust, buy the gun and sneak past wife into gun safe.

It's not a good idea to go around making your guns capable of FA, otherwise the ATF will come pick you up and you get a new friend by the name of "Pin ***** Bubba." And you'll be wearing pink underwear (but it's only pink in the back).

canada is useless for getting guns (no wonder we have the lowest gun death rate in north america)
all in yugoslavia:up: where else can we bask in the glorious presence of kalashnikovs, machine-gewhere 42's and automatic pistols, AND a few THOUSAND rounds of ammunition goodness, in belt fed forms and pickle jars:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:,:arrgh!:
thing is ever since NATO( moronrs btw:down::shifty:) tore apart my country instability has been on te brink ever since, hell wit the weapons my uncle has i can get 15-20 pple and we can start a war, we just drive some pple out of their homes they come back with guns and more pple, and the whole thing spreads... into a uncontrolable reaction:nope:, so my uncle is building a new house (needs new 1 wnyway for space) and hes armor plating the walls with reinforced concrete and 50mm of high strength steel armor as extra protection in the concrete. plus bullet proof windows. etc.. and fortified basement incase worst case scenario (nuclear war god forbid:shifty:), so hes taking some seirous steps to prevent enything happeneing.

Assuming the priority would be for home defence, go with a 12 ga. You can get the Fed. Tac. 00 buckshot that has low recoil and will reduce the chances of the shot visiting your neighbor.
Whether or not you go with a ghost ring is purely personal choice, but i hear that it's great for snap shots and LE applications, so it'll do well for home defense (I've never had any experience with them personally though).
You'll need something short enough to be used comfortably indoors, but still good enough for hunting. And you'll want to make sure that the shotgun can handle steel shot (since the law mandates steel shot for hunting). Otherwise you'll be changing barrels out every 10 shells or so.
And about the safes, they're great to keep the wife from sticking your guns in the woodchipper if she gets mad at you (this actually happened to a customers' gun that was brought in).

You do realize that Canda has something like 3 times the amount of firearms compared to the whole of the United States right? ANd you can still buy guns up there (depending on what province you're in that is).

I think I'll personally be after a FABARM's:
http://www.savvysurvivor.com/eliteshotguns.htm
The FABARM's version has a conpressor to absorb recoil - something that the Benneli does not. It may not protect against dirt and grime like the Bennelli though, but I don't plan to have it while slogging through the mud anyway - it is for home defense.

I'm undecided whether or not to invest in a firearm when I move to America and start a family. I want to protect them, but I want them to be safe from finding it too. I suppose a locker is a good thing to consider, but still, its a bit risky keeping a gun in the house when you have kids

How so? Property is property. The last I checked a shoe in the wrong hands can certainly kill someone (if that is what you are getting at), a car, even a Ferarri is considered a weapon by any police autority, if used as such, and clothing can easily strangle people.
Its not the item (property) that is the danger it is the individual's use of that item which makes it criminal.

Proper use of property, intelligent use of your money.
Wives often have more shoes than hairs, someone seems to have the same attitude with guns.

They are both 12 ga. I prefer the "Super X" shot, don't ask why.
Whether or not you go with a ghost ring is purely personal choice, but i hear that it's great for snap shots and LE applications, so it'll do well for home defense (I've never had any experience with them personally though).
That's another thing. A mounted sight or the ghost ring. I'll have to consider...but I'm liking the mounted sight better. Good for hunting.
You'll need something short enough to be used comfortably indoors, but still good enough for hunting. And you'll want to make sure that the shotgun can handle steel shot (since the law mandates steel shot for hunting). Otherwise you'll be changing barrels out every 10 shells or so.
They both come in three barrel lengths. I liking the Nova Pump right now, especially as I'm not fond of autoloaders. Both can handle the Magnum Steel Slugs, so no problem there.
And about the safes, they're great to keep the wife from sticking your guns in the woodchipper if she gets mad at you (this actually happened to a customers' gun that was brought in).
Thank god I only have a GF right now...:o

It depends on where you want to live, really. If anything, all you'll need for personal protection is a .38/.357 caliber revolver, or if you fancy modern firearms, a Glock. Now if money isn't an object:|\\ , go with either an .45 caliber H&K USP, or a Desert Baby Eagle, preferable .357 caliber. If you are not a gun nut, but still think you need one, consider the first two choices.
As for you kids safety, assuming they aren't lectured every day by you from day one about gun safety, you can either buy a gun safe, a child-proof trigger safety, or if you are very concerened about safety, both. But if you do get both, you loose the home-defence usage.
Yahoshua

This is my policy around kids:
1. Get them used to firearms, show them that a gun is a tool, not a toy.
2. Show them that firearms, when misused, have bad consequences (use a watermelon for this).
3. Tell them that they must NEVER touch a firearm without parents' permission.
4. Any firearms you use for CWP you keep on you at all times, the kids must NEVER know that you're even carrying. Kids have big mouths but don't know when to keep them shut.
And even if you don't plan to buy a firearm for self-defense, a .22 pistol or rifle is always great fun at the range. One of my favorite things is to glue paintballs to a paper target and hit as many as I can in a row. It's not as easy as you think it is (depending on how far the target is).
And a safe is useful for more than just firearms, such as sensitive papers, jewelry, etc. Just be sure to get one that is HEAVY and is bolted to a concrete slab. Even better would be if the safe were in a basement, this way the safe is guaranteed to STAY where you want it to.
And my answer to enigma is: http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k84/yahoshua/Smilies/moon.gif:smug:
Our entire industry has little to do with actual need, but with desire (and retail profits). As one deisres SHIV, but doesn't actually need it to survive. So you buy and play SHIV because it's fun, and because you can.
The same reason I own firearms: Because it's fun, and because I can.
I mean, c'mon. If you though I was a bad influence in this forum you should see this one too:

Do any of you gun experts know about a shot gun I saw one time ... the last time I was in a gun shop was 1998 and I saw a really nice black shot gun made in Italy that had 6 shot capcity with 9 shot extra option plus it was automatic ... or is that the wrong term, maybe a auto loader is what I mean.
It was $750 then, but that was nine years ago ... and one more question what is light shot gun shells and what is heavy?
Thanks
ASWnut101
03-26-07, 09:04 PM
Italy, eh? I can only guess that it was a Benelli (that's the only Italian gun maker that I know of). Yes, it (should) is an autoloader. Not too sure about the make, though. One thing is for certain, it was illegal. Max shell capacity is 4+1, so six or nine would be illegal, especially for Clinton's time.

The Kentucky Machine Gun Shoot? It's in the name: MACHINE GUN shoot.
You are not going to need or have a use for:

1 .50AE desert Eagle
You lucky bastard. How long have you been waiting for?
Yahoshua

He'll have a use for the .50 rifle if he does silhouette shooting (or just likes to spend $1.50 on each round he shoots).
You lucky bastard, I've wanted to go to a MG shoot for YEARS and still haven't had the chance for it.
I personally have no preference to belt fed autos since they'd become too addictive for me (and therefore expensive).
And sry Danlisa, can't purchase Full Autos anymore due to the import ban (1980s'), the MG ban (1920s'), and the sale/transfer ban (ATF). SO the only place you're likely to find something like that is at a MG shoot (until MG shoots are banned too that is).
I want the Gravity Gun from Half Life 2.
