View Full Version : My biggest wish as a 1x TC player

I often times like to play on 1xTC or as close as possible. My biggest wish is that when I encountered a merchant or enemy unit, the game would pause itself and use the internet to send my phone a txt message regarding what type of unit was just encountered. That way, I could come back to the game and take over if I was able to or the game would remain paused untill I came back to my computer. I cant always be at the sceen during a 1xTC patrol and there is nothing more annoying then spending a week in transit only to encounter a DD or airplane when im AFK:dead::dead::dead::dead::dead: Is something like that even possible? How difficult would it be to do? Just curious.

One possibly more complex solution outside of SH is to have a program that monitors the sound output. It may be possible to find a software that gets activated when a certain sound is played or the noise level reaches a certain level. You would essentially capture the "Ship spotted" sound. I would look for a speech recognition software and see if it would be possible to hook that up to the sound output?

Startinf from the beginning, when a ship is spotted and the menu pops up asking you what you want to do, is there not a way to make the menu pause the game?

Did you try editing the main.cfg and entering TC 0 for Enemy detected and Air Enemy detected ?

No I havent tried anything since I dont know what im doing. I would no doubt botch my install. Is that all that I need to change? Where is the cfg file located? Also, is that reliable as im not sure that my menu pops up 100% of the time that something is spotted.

No need to edit. Once your patrol has loaded, press Esc, select Options and select Reset Settings. Voila! :smug:

That causes the menu to pause the game?

Other possibility : use SH3 Cdr to set the TC for the events...
The main.cfg is in My Documents/SH3/Data/Cfg. You open it with text editor, change what you want and save... no big risks.

Ha no big risks. Youre talking to the guy that spilled piping hot gravy on his last mobo while adding more ram. Ha no risk!

This is definately the way to go. I use this method to pause the game for enemy aircraft and to bring the TC down to 1 for enemy ships.

It is very simple to do:

Go to "My Documents"
Locate "SH3 folder" and double-click to open it
Double-click on "Data" folder
Double-click on "cfg" folder
Double-click on "main" file to open
The second section is labeled [TIME COMPRESSION]
Make this change: "AirEnemyDetect=0"
Make this change: "EnemyDetect=0"

You might also like to make "LandProximty=128" to travel faster through the Kiel Canal.

Now click on "File" and save.

You might want to do this in port!

I will def give that a go when i finally get back to port in a week or so. Now just to figure out how to make the game send a txt message. Hmmmmm:hmm:

The simple thing to do would be to copy the appropriate file and modify the copy and then add the copied file to the game by using JSGME so that if anything should be buggered up then you can quickly undo it.

I'll be the first to admit that I know nearly nothing about editing .cfg files and the like but I do know that you can safely risk a mistake so long as you have your backup.

I dont know much about programming but im well clever. I think I can solve my txt message delema with a leash, some banannas, a pair of headphones, a trained monkey, and a pre paid phone.

You can NOT use JSGME because the cfg file to be edited in NOT in the Silent Hunter Directory. It is in the SH3 Folder under your "My Directory" section. If something were to get messed up with this file and could not be manually fixed, just delete the SH3 Folder under "My Directory" and restart the game. The game will automaticaly create a new SH3 Folder if one does not exist under My Directory. The downside to this is you will have lost all your saved games but you can start anew.

Wow, crazy. Though you know I had this thought myself. What if the game could email me or something? Then I could leave it running always.

Unfortunately that's probably not possible, but hey, at least you found a way to pause the game :D Seriously, 1x all the time? That is dedication!
