My first career game and Im awarded the USS Tautog! Sweeeet! I mean, heck, this was a somewhat famous boat.

So, yeah, i was pretty happy about that, until i shoved off and got my mission orders. A photo recon.. No biggie i think... changed my mind about how easy this might be after i started plotting my course, it appears im going to Japan.:

Did i mention that im allergic to mines?! They may as well have sent me into the Emperor's wading pool! Orders are orders, but i swear, i think some bad karama from harbor raiding in the carribean followed me from SH3. At least the approach has a channel of deeper water, but i expect this is going to be tantamount to passing through Gibralter.

Wow, cool boat! But yeah, trial by fire for a brand new Skipper eh. :o And I thought the KM needed heroes and wasn't too particular.

Good luck Ducimus. Let how us know how it turns out!

I'm gonna have to post the agent drop off first mission I have in the latest career.

I have to drop the guy of practically within sight of Tokyo!

my longest career so far was 2 patrols, i completely wiped out a small convoy(3 escorts and 5 merchants) then on my way back to the harbour i ran agroun on some random island not on the map and in deep water and sunk.

My longest campaign was about 4-5 patrols after I lost the USS Triton and it figured I somehow still survived I ended it; the only thing that can get a immobile sub from the coast of Japan is a large task force I suspect.

58,000 tons on 1 patrol?

most subs were lucky to score 10k on one run and averaged ~5k if they found anything in the seas on a patrol. At least from what I've read so far (and it ain't much.)

UNREALISM AT ITS FINEST!!!!!!!! :)

I had to do a photo recon mission to Japan for my first career mission as well. (Photo recon at Yokohama...I was tempted to go to Tokyo. I was that close to it.) Horrible weather with waves, rain, fog, etc. which probably helped the approach some, but made it difficult to do the mission because I couldn't see anything until I was about 300 yards away from it.

The mission actually turned out to have a bonus connected to it: a Fuso battleship docked in Yokosuka. They'll probably be able to bring it up and repair it like the Americans did to most of the BB's at Pearl, but it was worth the fish I put into it to take it out of action for a little while.

For my first career, I was awarded the "USS Tresher" (the Thresher, but spelled wrong in game. LOL) but since I didn't know what I was doing with the new setup (played SH3 and have lurked here so far), I started a new career before I even did the first mission, where I was awarded command of the USS Trout. (The real Trout was presumed lost in April of '44, so I'm hoping to receive another boat before then. LOL)

I haven't had to drop off supplies or men yet, but I'm halfway expecting it. The mission briefing told me to prepare to deliver supplies, then they sent me to patrol the East China Sea again. We'll see what happens!

My first campaign mission out of Pearl heading to Solomons. Nearly there and entered a thunder storm just before sunrise. Outragously spectacular even at 4 fps on my weak ATI X1300.

My first career patrol is on the USS Tarpon. I'm currently patrolling somewhere out in the South China Sea. Although I've come across a couple of small escorted convoys, aside from wasting five expensive torpedos, I have little to show for it thus far. I'm at 100% realism, and although it's a little frustrating not to have sunk anything yet (except perhaps my ego) -- I'm having an absolute blast with SH4. Initial growing pains aside, it truly is a wonderful WWII sub sim!

2nd patrol was a Photo Recon of Hiroshima harbour  (Anyone remember the cardinal rule from SH3/GWX -Stay out of the shallow water) but i did get a docked Ise BB with my last 6 fish :D:D which made up for the nasty suprise of Shore Battery's

lol yea i was rolling along on my first mission (deploy to east china sea) and followed a convoy contact up to west of japan and after i destroy a few i catch up with the rest to see them running aground and killing themselves. so i turn around to head home and i put on some time compression and this was in 1.0 i all of a sudden am sinking....heh. started looking around saw some flashes on land and was like sob. make a perpendicular run to shore to escape inspect the damage..i had upwards of 15 holes in my ship and for some reason i tohught i could submerge...yea...bad idea. learned a good lesson tho. pay attention lol now 1.1 you get airbombed on top of it. rough.

Not my fault the game awards high tonnage. I only sank about 6 ships. Nevermind that one was an ocean liner
