There was once a FAQ and error message database for DC/SH2 . Did anyone ever save this ?

This error message below is like a bug . It seems to attach itself to the game after certain crashes and can be removed only by a reinstall. Any thoughts anyone ?

Error -1 [nStage < 0 || nStage >= TEXTURE_STAGE_MAX || m_aStages[nStage] == 0]

Hi David

I think the thread about Sh2/DC janus errors stayed in the old forum, you probably can find it in the archives. Do you get that error in a notepad message, like the normal janus error, or is it a windows pop-up? In the first case, I would try to configure graphics card again with the game's configure exe and see carefully after purposely causing the error if new files are created inside you game folder. Hope that helps.

Thanks Alberto.

Video cards is not an area I usually dabble in so I tend to freeze up when confronted with them.

The only "archives" I can find ( bottom right of page) only takes me into the old " classic subsims" section . The old DC forum had a sticky but this forum doesn't seem to be available in the archives any more - although I thought I managed to access it only last year..... ??

The message is the typical notepad one and I believe the error has something to do with the game not accepting a texture plate. I was hoping that someone might have remembered something more specific than my feeble "something to do with".

I've got a little closer to the problem - I get the error when I change the weather parameter in a mission file to anything except "clear" . As I've messed around with the cloud textures my suspicion is I have a rogue texture plate in my mod.

That said all that, I'd find a list of the old janus errors ( and specific causes) useful.

Might this have any relation? ---> You can't create new "weathers" with different names than the original ones (F.e. you can't create a new weather called [FREEZING]) so that might explain the crash.

Anyway, try first to put the original clouds back. I recall that the clouds were some of those "special" files where size and some special characteristics mattered....like the gauges stations graphics, where you needed actually to copy the new over it instead of "save as tga" from scratch:hmm:

Yep that did it, :D although I had to go back to some very old backups ( maybe 2003 !!) . :o

My recent backups had no effect. Looks like I'd duplicated the rogue texture plate(s) some time ago and like a virus it kept infecting my sky textures. Guess that explains why I've had this problem off and on for years.

Are you sure ??
Actually I do this regularly without problems. :-?
