View Full Version : Out of fuel!

I'm stranded about 2500 nautical miles east of Midway. And my diesels are dry.

Worst part is, there's no "End Mission" button like there was in Silent Hunter III to teleport you back, fuel or not.:88)

What to do?

Get out and push? Ask the friendly neighborhood Yamoto to give you a tow?

Dunno what you can do, got enough battery juice to get you there?

dive to the bottom of the sea and die.
end mission
get back to port and receive a mssg about how you got the ship back to port in that condition.

:) true it happened to me lol. got killed at 1500 feet somewhere int he ocean, and could have continued my career. after getting some daft engame mssg about how badly my sub was damaged ( it imploded) and sailing it home in poor condition ( we were all dead)

so zombie fish men are ok in the USN. problem solved hehe.

Use your electrics get down to periscope depth use battery up to 25% surface stop and refuel then go back down tp periscope depth. Prepare for a REEAAALLLLLYYYY long journey.

so there is this "feature" in sh4 again, allowing you to load batts when you got no fuel left and diesels are at "all stop"?

Yup, batteries recharge magically whenever you're on the surface, forever, regardless of fuel state.

nice to read that. Must be a sh3-engine "feature", that was never corrected. Maybe someone from the dev-team reads this and solves it in the next patch. I hope

As far as I can tell the fuel meter does not work. I went to Japan last night and the meter never moved:shifty:

Which might be a result of the infamous bug known as the "Infinite Fuel Realism Setting";).

I have a similar problem with too much fuel. My first try at a stock mission was the "insert agent near Singapore" one and I thought I would never make it back with enough fuel.

Since I've started campaigns, my fuel never goes down even though I make sure and check the "limited fuel" option.

i noticed if you have the default difficulty on "easy" they never drain. on medium, hard, very hard, them tanks drain down.

from midway to japan, going ahead one-third, i use up almost a quarter tank on medium difficulty to reach the mouth of toe-kay-oh channel....

i only wish every time i started a new game it would save my last settings.

Of course this is a huge bug since it is not possible to charge batteries without engines working even at low revolution.

Yeah, I'm wondering if that difficulty setting affects more than just the realism settings. Behind the scene maybe it affects ai and other things?

yes, yes it does effect other things, like enemy Ai.

untill i changed the default easy to medium, i thought the fuel gauge was broke and the AI was lack-luster to say the least. on med.,the planes are more adept and the surface vessels way better.

i cannot just find a hole in Yokohama harbor waiting for night so i can charge my batteries and then surface to charge without some DD pest coming over pinging and dropping tin cans on me anymore.

on easy i got at least 2hrs to get some juice in them batteries. on med, i get around 10-20 mins before i have to sink and evade..

EDIT: and oh, realism, everything checked except "no map contacts" and "manual targeting" [not good enough for that yet but working on it] realism is 73 %
just in case that might a difference too...

This is what annoys me too. Its not a bug just an oversight. If you select Game Options before you Camp and set it up, it gets reset when you start the Campaign. When it ask you for a Difficulty level remember? Well it resets it to some crappy settings they have. You can reset it again when NOT ON PARTROL and in the Captains quarters. There is a book next to the Save Book (on the book shelf) that allows you to change the settings to what you want again.

Yep, set it to at least medium or normal and you'll really have to watch your fuel.

It would be nice if there was a "radio for a tow" option when you run out of fuel. That may not be completely realistic, but it is more realistic than the painful submerge - run for 30 minutes - surface - "air charge" the batteries - repeat forever to get back to port.

Actually its the radio next to the save book. :)

Also to conserve fuel run at Ahead slow, if its like SHIII it's the most fuel efficiant speed.

Is there any button like in SH3 with your navigator that tells you "fuel range at current speed"? Im hoping I just missed it....

you can changed the realsim settings on your campaign by modifying the Cfg file in your save's folder, so you can pick and choose which you want.

That feature is still there.

Be careful using tc. I took a tench class from pearl and set speed at 2\3. At some point when switching stations then bumping up tc again the game set my speed to flank. I was below half a tank by the time I reached that patrol zone.
