What is the difference and when do you use which? I have full access to the TDC controls in both?

Also, on 100% realism - when I raise my periscope and note ships shouldn't they appear on my nav map? or am I supposed to use the stadimeter to get their range and then mark them on my map relative to my position?

I believe the observation scope has a wider view, and the attack scope zooms in farther.

at 100% realism, you've turned off map updates, so yes you need to mark them manually.

*bump* for a verification on this is true? Could someone verify ubergeek for me? Observation persicope is just wider view range with less zoom than attack?

Yes, but great for scanning the sea surface and sky.

I'm not too familiar with the US sub details, but I was wandering, if the observation scope was just that. No range finding gadgets or anything else too fancy. Maybe, it's possible to remove TDC possibility from the observation scope? It was raised during daytime periscope patrol in the enemy controlled area and better suited for finding aircrafts, ships, land reconnaissance etc....

the observation scope also swings around faster, slightly wider view and i think it tweaks up/down more...great for showing up the watchman on the scope shears when on the surface:)
