And here you have the midget

No space left on my page to show the 2 new US subs, but they look average anyway
Hey, thanks for posting this, what a monster!
:o
No kidding. It launches freaking airplanes. FREAKING AIRPLANES! Its like the Super Star Destroyer of WW2 Submarines!
So who's gonna be the first to sink it?

hehe :rotfl::up:
I'm surprised that this isn't getting more attention (when I discovered the files for the large sub and posted it, no one even noticed).:-? It seems everyone wanted Japanese submarines in SHIV, and now the dev team has delivered. Unlike Ubisoft itself, which failed to give bonus materials to Canadians.:nope:
Do these two subs have the ability to fire torpedoes, and to dive and surface?:hmm:

Quite something. In fact I happened to pick up just last week from my local library a copy of the submarine war volume from the old Time-Life series on the Pacific War ... I think the sub volume was called War under the Sea or something like that. Terrific pics generally of the sub war in the PTO, and several pics of these monsters. IIRC there were a couple of different types, and they barely entered service prior to the end of the war.

I just created a mission and I placed the new subs in it so I could have a look at them.
AG124: The subs won't attack me. I shot them dead without them doing anything. Haven't tried anything else
It's the sen toku class

Im not sure if you can play it ?
I edited its config so it says PLAYABLE=YES that way I can choose human control in the mission editor, but when I load my mission I have to choose a sub and you can only choose the US ones from the list

Well, 3D objects and AI submarines are not quite the same thing. I hope this is a feature not yet implemented, but which they intend to carry through with.

Yes, you are correct.:yep: However, I believe it is misspelled in the game files as "Sent-Toku" class. Probably a typo - one of the dev team members must have accidently hit the 't' key twice.

Yeah, maybe this is a last minute "We won't say it will be in the game but if we can do it, then we will add it to the game" type thing….
It really only matters to me if it is a normal AI unit that interects with the player. When I am on my 5th patrol, a proud veteran sub skipper with medals and tonnage, and I am running on the surface off the coast of Okinawa to get in position for an attack on a convoy, and I see a periscope and two torpeso tracks headed for me…then I will be happy. :)

Military Channel voted this class of sub in the top 10 subs of all time. It's innovation to be able to launch up to 3 small aircraft put it on the list. These subs were part of the Pearl invasion force.
Very cool. After the war the soviets demanded the USA send them one for study. So they were scuttled as a response, I'd say that meant that there was some rather tasty bits of tech inside these monsters.
I feel this game would have been incomplete without them.

Ive glad to see they made some effort, I export the Sen toku model in to 3dsmax with pack 3d (yes its still works), and the model is very impressive.
But they still have no AI... I hope the devs will fix it in a later patch - this time round

Man, don't they ever stop making those annoying top ten shows? At least I hope they don't let Tom Clancy or Bruce Dickinson in on those anymore as judges, if they really have to make another one... though that was on Discovery, not History Channel. Still, annoying as hell :D

I've got the book at home. It's called the War under the Pacific. It's a great read and gives a good account of American Sub opperations. It gives japanese subs a whole chapter to themselves, and gives some references to British and German subs.

I-400 and I-401 were surely not part of the Pearl-Harbor fleet, as these two subs were commissioned in 1944.
From 18 submarines of that type only 3 were comissioned. Together with the smaller submarine-carriers I-13 & I-14 and several smaller submarines, were tasked to attack the Panama-Canal.
I-400, I-401 and I-402 each carried 3 Aichi M6A1 "Seiran" planes, which could carry an 800kg torpedo or an 900kg bomb. The I-13 & I-14 each carried 2 smaller long-range recon-planes. The original plan was to strike the Panama-Canal by going through the Indian Ocean and the Atlantik and attack from the east side. That would have been an utter surprise to the Navy.
It was estimated, though, the route would take too long and it was decided to attack the Caroline-Islands instead. The Seirans were fitted with US-markings and took position, but the coordination. The war was over, before they could make a real strike.
The submarines were far superior to any other submarine and in the US engineers surveying the German subs were reordered to inspect those submarines. They were so advanced, they didn't want them to fall into the hands of the Russians and they were sunk. Just recently, the sunk submarine-fleet was rediscovered.

Yesterday I opened the museum to have a look at this monster of a sub, but it wasn't there. The only sub that was shown was this midget sub. What went wrong? I have the German DE patched to 1.01.

Too right, mate!
I stand corrected.
How did I get Pearl out Panama Canal??

Hi,
where did you find it?
I have seen it in Osaka and Yokosuka when I was dropping off agents or taking photo recon shots. Does anyone know if it can be sunk? I sank two cruisers with a single fish each, but after 3 hits the Sen Toku wasn't even listing at all.
Whoa, so Japanese subs are actually simulated?
As in, they move around the map and stuff? Or are they just something the devs forgot to finish, do they just sit there? :(
I really really hope we get enemy subs. This is the ONE major thing that irks me about Silent Hunter. I want to be hunted underwater toooo! :arrgh!:
I found this on another board. Lots of pictures after the Americans got these huge subs. http://community.webshots.com/album/551294877dRtTJI

Sen Toku isnt its just an enemy ai unit however
I did find a mini sub of the type that Sakamaki used.
I posted it on easter eggs.

So they're moved around by the AI? Do they follow set routes?

Big subs mean slow dive times and easy contacts by ASW units. Thats why the German 'Milk Cows' all got sunk.
Big subs are usless for combat, but good for covert transport of goods. I'd like to see the day when they have large submerible commerical transports that laugh at storms because they quietly sand safely sail beneath them. No more oil tankers or container ships splitting in two because of rough seas.

I suspect that any mission those monsters would have been sent out on would have become a suicide mission. Too big to hide, too slow and cumbersome to escape. Once detected they would have been dead meat.
It wasn't the things in the sub's actual interior the US Navy was interested in...it was the hangar and catapult. The US already had a few V-1s from the fall of Germany and the idea of launching V-1s from subs intrigued them. The I-400s gave the US Navy alot of ideas for storing and launching SSMs from subs, which they eventually put into practice in the 50's.
