I have not had a great deal of time to play since I got the game two days ago, but the first time I played it was unplayable. The game stuttered so badly that I could not stand it. I updated all drivers and tried again with nearly the same result. Then last night something happened. I had just loaded the game when my wife called to ask for some help. I was gone about 5 minutes, and I left the game running. When I returned, everything was fine. I went from Pearl to Honshu, sank several ships, got bombed a few times (not the alcohol kind), and even went close inshore, but the stutter was gone.
I saved, reloaded, restarted, etc, and each time after about three minutes the stuttering was gone and did not return. My last computer programming class was at the US Naval Academy in the 80's; so I am by no means an expert in modern programming languages, but could it be that something is still loading/running in the background even after the game starts? It would seem that whenever the process finishes, the game is fine, at least on my machine. (I do have equal to or greater than all recommended specs.)
As an aside, except for some minor glitches, I am really enjoying the game. I love the damage models, and as a Navy person I can tell you standing on the bridge as you leave port near sunset almost seems real to me. Pearl should look a little different on December 10, 1941, but I don't mind.
