View Full Version : Help with firing multiple torpedoes: manual salvo.

Hi mates.
I've got this problem. The movement of the periscope it's not linked at all to the TDC as it was in SH3 if you know what i mean.
I got used to find a solution to fire to a big ship, then move the scope from the left to the right to fire a manual salvo in order to hit the ship in different places.
Using this tecnique here it's impossibile. Even moving and swaing the scope from right to left doesnt change the angle at which the fishes are fired.
So if i aim at different places of the ship, they all go in the same. I'm really pissed off, cause i cannot make 4 holes on the side of that damned tanker any more.
Maybe i'm missing something... please help.

I think this is a MAJOR problem apart from other bugs...
You cannot fire a fish aiming for a specific ship place!
Again: i hope i'm wrong. Please leave you're 2 cents here.

You're right. We're all used to being able to pin point our shots but here everything heads for the smokestack. If it wasn't for the range changing from the original input as I cycle through the tubes every shot would hit the stack. Not sure if this is a bug or the way it works.

If it is the way it is supposed to work, we may have to do something crazy like input a slightly slower than measured speed to hit the bow, or a slightly faster than measured speed to aim for the stern. Going to be a lot of dial flipping if this is so.

Honestly, I need the great Wazoo guide updated for SHIV. I've kind of worked out how to get a gyro of zero, by fixing the speed and AoB and repeating the stadimeter meaurements as the ship closes until the bottom indicator on the station keeper shows the torp coming straight out. I have no idea if that's the optimum way or not. I sure miss that "000" indicator!

You send the bearing and range together.

Or, for your purposes, you can offset the torpedoes through the salvo spread setting for the tube you'll be firing.

I got this feeling: when you set the distance with the steadimeter i think you also choose the azimuth (direction) of the target. If you set the distance without using "L" to lock the target but you do it manually aiming to the bow or stern of the target, maybe it calculates a different course. Very difficult indeed anyway... better to tweak different speeds of target as you suggested. Anyway i'll make a try.

Try to explain this salvo spread: if i choose 5 degrees left it means that the fish goes 5 degrees left from where i'm aiming? so to fire a salvo of 3 torps i set:

The first 5 degrees left - > then fire
The second 0 degrees -> then fire
the third 5 degrees right -> then fire

Am i right?

Update position keeper before you shoot. Spread angle can be set in torp settings Ie.slide out on rt.side of pariescope screen,try to open tubes before you shoot. Check attack screen to make sure fish are running true,some Mk14's are circle runners if you surface,or set torp depth to deep,they will get your ass end! I had two in Sub School convy attack

I just tried this in torp school. Using all the same settings that will consistently give me a hit under the smokestack, I made a single change - setting the salvo in the station keeper to 4 degrees right. The torp went right into his nose.

So for your example above, your first torp would hit him astern, the second dead center, and the third in the bow, assuming a starboard 90 shot (the target moving from your left to your right across your bow.)

Your other suggestion also works. I inputted the mast height from the recognition manual, then unlocked the scope. By using the arrow keys I was able to move the scope to the right until the vertical cross hair was over the bow. I then used the stadimeter to input the distance measurement and then fired the torpedo. You have to be quick though. The torp went straight into his bow, right where the crosshair was when I sent the data to the TDC.

I'm guessing it will be easier to use the salvo approach, but time (and practice) will tell.
