View Full Version : Manually opening torpedo doors
After getting SH IV last Tuesday I got flattened by a slight bout of the flu so today is my first SH IV experience......
A new patch is out already......I'm sure that in a couple of months, UBI will have fixed most gamekilling bugs and the great modding community over here will have fine-tuned this baby so that it can be in SH III's class.
Anyway, I can't find how to open the torpedo doors manually, other than by pressing the 'q' button....did I miss something in the manual?
If this action is possible could someone please point out how.....any help would be appreciated.

The 'Q' key is the only way to open the T. doors. Havent read the manual yet, but I think that it means you can manually open the doors without firing.

Yeah, select the tube, then hit Q. It doesn't tell you when the door has actually opened though. I've just been waiting about 10 seconds after hitting Q and assuming it has opened by then.

Yes, Q is the only way. It's the same as in SH3.
That's a shame; I don't want to join the ranks of all ranters because I have seen many nice things in the little time I got to spend with SH IV, but I did like the option in SHIII where you could open the tubes via the weapons officer or the conning tower better....
Thanks for the answers guys!

That's not entirely true....in SH III the torpedo doors could be opened in three ways: by pressing th 'q' button and at these stations:
via the weapons officer: clickable

Or in the conning tower: clickable as well

I was hoping somebody had been able to find something like this...

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Q key only let you have 1 tube open at a time? I mean if you select tube 1 and hit Q, then select 3 and hit Q tube 1 closes and tube 3 opens.
I always had to manually open the doors if I wanted more than 1 open at one by using the switches on the weapons office console or on the attack pericope in the conning tower.

You're absolutely right! It should be possible to have more than one tube door opened....but how?

? In SHIII, when you choose a spread and then press the Q key, the necessary torpedo doors open.

The open door function is bugged in SHIv. Same old bug as in SH3. When ever you select another tube it automatically closes your old one. Grrr.
This you could sneak around in SH3 by salvo shot. But there is no such function in SH4. I hope they fix this.

I think that happened when you chose to fire more than one torpedo at a target, remember in SH3 you could fire a single fish or 2>3>4 at one time then if you hit "Q" all the doors for the fish selected would open. I suspect its the same for SH4 at the Attack map....Not been there yet though still familiarizing myself of the lay-out/control/views.....I must say ONCE you get over the non AA and the jaggies it really is a wonderful graphic display of ships/subs/islands/trees everything is really top notch.
One bug i have found the "Next Target" key sometimes puts you in Mid air floating over a space of water with no target in view.
