Interesting opinion and one that make sense.

-S

"...unlike Soviet times, Russia is not out to make mischief for the West. Russia wants to use its influence to build bridges, initiate dialogue, and play a positive role."

- Yevgeny Satanovsky, president of the independent Institute of Middle East Studies in Moscow, 2/21/2006 7

"One state, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way...the almost uncontained hyper use of force in international relations...It is a world of one master, one sovereign ... it has nothing to do with democracy...This is nourishing the wish of countries to get nuclear weapons...This is very dangerous, nobody feels secure anymore because nobody can hide behind international law..."
- Vladmir Putin, Security Forum, Munich Germany, 02/11/2007 10

...For a number of years, the hints have been apparent to those looking. In some ways, it has been apparent only as a sort of feeling of deja vu, a little like reading a few pages into a book and then realizing, "Hey, I've read this book!". That realization -- that inkling suddenly becomes a ull blown spine tingler...when you mentally put a finger on a passage and say before you've read it, "this is going to happen, you watch." And then you know. It's all happened before. In this case, we're saying there is a New Cold War in operation today, and it has been in operation for some time.

In politics and history, the same feeling can be had when history begins to repeat itself -- or at least patterns emerge that you've seen before. Especially when the people involved give you clues or the nations involved resembles a familiar pattern -- one you remember occuring not so long ago. Then, when governments return to age old practices that you had hoped were gone for good, you know it is more than just a vague feeling, it is a full blown epiphany. Thus we arrive at the situation today, the New Cold War brewing away, and in places, it is not so cold, it is damned well on fire.

We should note up front that this discussion will focus on the Middle East viewpoint, with mention of Europe and the Americas only made tangentially to that focus. However, there is additional evidence of the New Cold War worldwide, and we invite you to explore that for yourself. Don't be thrown off, for instance, by our lack of focus on the major Old Cold War tensions in Europe, where billions of dollars and millions of man-hours were spent in watching for a Soviet incursion into Western Europe. That is a story for another day...

This is personally an opinion I have fostered for some time in some respects...that since, I'd say the Serbian crisis, a new Cold War has been brewing...accelerated by actions of both Russia and the US. To most countries though, Russia has fallen off the scope, it's all China, Korea and the Middle East now. In recent years there has been a small rise in Russian militarisation, not a rise such as a realm of new vehicles and manpower being put into service...no...that would just create alarm in the wrong places....but carefully planned exercises, one involving a full test of the nuclear ability IIRC, overseen by Putin himself, and a more aggressive posture towards its ex-WP neighbours. I can't see a return to the days of the 1960s though, Russia may forceably annex several nearby neighbours but it won't get far...Europe still remembers the days of the Cold War, and the reaction will be quick and bloody. But...now we are at a precarious point...the nations are divided, the powerful military forces tied up far away from the European battlefield...if ever there was a time to strike...now would be it. BUT Russia is not that stupid ;)
There's no doubt about it though, through some very careful and clever movements, Putin has given Russia a greater hold over Europe than it had in the 1990s, particularly energy-wise.

It could be a 'Cold War' in more than one sense of the term.... :o

According to the Timetraveller who claims he lives 50yrs in the future, the USA and RUSSIAN will be best friends and go to war as allies in the last war which is suppose to be within 12yrs. :hmm:

:yep:

I read that too, and Russia will nuke the US in 2015, so I am not sure what you read. Russia will not be able to stop the US, and will nuke the US to remove the US Government. Better get some good sunblock! They will also nuke China, and also get nuked in return. Apparently 3 Bill people get to die in the chaos.

But obviously parallel universes do not play out the same since we are supposed to have Civil war in the US right now. So obviously he is full of BS, or things will not quite be as predicted.

Yep - I agree. The only way to accomplish this is to destabilize the US to such a degree that it is much less strong. Hmm, that other communist thread seems to show them doing that!!!?? Ah oh!

PS. Might as well give up the Hummer now Elite! You won't get to keep it in the near future.

Dah! Welcome with open arms, comrades, the Neo-Soviet Union (http://russophobe.blogspot.com/), which sounds somewhat like a return of the Oldo-Soviet Union. :hmm:

Russia is selling Mach 3 anti ship missiles to Iran and China it seems to stir the pot. They are probably just dying to have one of these countries use one against a carrier.

Capitalism is just that, capitalising.

Its exploitation of many people by a few people. Its grossly unfair and I personally see all jobs having equal worth in any society, to my mind, the binman is just as important as the Teacher, or the Doctor, or the Policeman. Or any of the other higherups.

Having said that, a true system of communism would never work in a million years because people are inherently selfish always wanting more. Not wanting to settle for less. There is nothing wrong with wanting to better oneself, but its wrong to do so at the expense of others.

Putins plan is to turn things back into the old Soviet Union, so if you don't want to be a commie, better pick a different leader.

Now that you said that and now that, and looking at the US, how do you rate us? We are not, nor have when been a true capitalist society since the Robber Barons. We lean heavily on the Capitalist side than the Socialist side, or at least did for the last half of the 20th Century.

Now compare that to a pure Socialist system like the old Soviet Union. Which is it that you like?

Now let me ask you, have you ever been in a country of pure oppurtunity and allowed to take part in it? The question I have, have you ever been outside of your cage?

Now to trump this whole entire conversation:
It is easy to measure ones country simply by looking at how many people want in vs how many people want out.

oy. i figured russians would not let their arch nemisis (americans) take over their country, look, think about it russia becomes a super power, cold war, BUT both us and russia know they cud both wipe each other out so they dont attack each other..... BUT theres a problem, china, and iran werent as powerful back then as they r now... solution: nuke te hell outta them by teaming up, or by creating some miracle treaty. en the end no one wins and we all die in a massive nuclear winter, if i had more money, id set up nuclear underground shelter, with at least 30 yrs of food and water supply.

If you look at millatery terms the USN is large however the Russian millatery is not far off american size, in terms of nuclear warheads russia has 10 times at least that of american warheads (only about 1/3 of them useful mind!) so yes russia can still kick ass.

America is no way invincible nor is russia but i cant see either going to war so whats the use?
