I've seen another thread about a laptop installation, but I thought I'd put this in a separate thread to avoid hijacking. If the mods want to merge or put this anywhere else it's ok with me.
Installed on a widescreen laptop
Pentium M730 1.6Ghz
RAM 1GB DDR2sdram
Vidcard GeForce Go6200 256Meg
Installation was smooth as glass. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected a no-go or problems. For now I just let it do a default install. It defaulted to medium graphics settings and a 1024x768 on 60Hz (this machine can go to 1280x800).
I rebooted before running the game, because I'd seen some remarks here that that's a good idea. Before starting the game, I deliberately didn't shut down any background processes, with the exception of killing Quicktime and Spybot. I wanted to see if/how it would run without tweaking.
Menu load is real fast. And once you click in the office to start the mission, the mission loads very fast compared to SH3, took less than ten seconds for sure.
Anyway with the career/mission up and running, I found the following:
- pretty jerky in harbour in bridge view (I don't have an fps, sorry) to the point where that'll have to be fixed or at least made better hopefully with tweaking ... very bad mouse lag as well
- I headed out of Manila harbour and once out at sea, the jerkiness was definitely less, although not as improved as I'd like. I haven't run into any other traffic or aircraft yet (haven't had time to play more than about 45 minutes), but I suspect things would slow down quite a bit. With that kind of fps I don't consider it really playable at this point. BTW, mouse still lagging pretty badly, mouse does not lag in navmap view.
-T/C is very smooth
-voices are a bit muffled-sounding, maybe can fix in options
-diesels sound tinny ... my audio is decent, so I'm pretty sure it's the game sound itself
-on medium settings, the graphics aren't bad at all, just a bit of a cartoony feel maybe, but I haven't played with settings yet, so I don't mean that as critcism of the game graphics at this point
-exiting the game, I had a low minimum message on Virtual Memory settings, so I'll play with that as well
I think I may get decent playability with some tweaking.

The mouse lagging was so bad that the game is not playable, otherwise it was OK. Since there is no support for laptops, I suspect I won't be able to play it.
Rig: athlon 4000+
1gb ram DDR2
ati mobile radeon 200 with 125 of shared memoryl (I suspect this is the problem)
I ran the game with FS autoplay (freed up a lot of memory; I had 780 of free ram.
Maybe somebody will have a fix for the lagging mouse.

For what it's worth imho the mouse lag is a straight memory thing, although if you were showing free ram I'm scratching my head.

I tried mine again for a while, this time killing some background processes first (except couldn't kill network AV which I suspect is fouling things up quite a bit). Still slow and jerky in panning view and same bad mouse lag. I'd like to get my hands on 2GB of ram and see what differnce it makes, but I can't fork out that much for $$$laptop memory.

Oh, btw, what's FS autoplay?

It's a program to shut down programs and services that are using memory, and to defrag the memory. Google FSautostart to get the link
BTW, I get some mouse lag with my desktop also. It has 1Gb memory and Ati 9800 card with 250 Mb of memory. My CPU is pent IV at 2.34 Gh.

Thanks, I'll check it out. But I'm now feeling better about my home pc after reading another thread ... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108216 ... and seeing your specs, mine very close to yours and the others in that thread, just my vidcard is ATI9550, which isn't supported, but seems a vidcard upgrage should do the trick.

I tried FSautostart on my desktop, btw. It's great. Before with killing processes via task manager on 1GB ram I was getting about 730 free, with FSautostart I'm getting 830-840.

Tks again.

I am running it on my Fujitsu N 3530, and I have not had any problems on my laptop. In another post I stated that I always experience stuttering (low FPS) during the first few minutes of play, and then it resolves itself. I have made one convoy attack in the Sea of Japan, and I did not have any problems. I just let it sit for about three minutes after I load up, and it is fine after that. The odd thing is that I experience a longer initial load time. It definitely does not take ten seconds.
