I was wondering while I wait for my deluxe version to come in from GoGamer.com if you just use the keyboard and mouse or does SH4 allow the use of a gaming pad, or even other input devices?:ping: Thanks Andy

The real question is - what for? The game's always had a very mouse-intensive interface (or otherwise - required you to learn a lot of key shortcuts).

So no, I don't believe it supports any other devices. On the other hand, it doesn't really need to! A gamepad would be very inefficient to use with it, the game has too many functions.

If you hold down right trigger and left shoulder button while holding down A and B and rotate the analog controllers different ways you unlock the underwater jet booster pack.

I hope you didn't buy the game hoping that it would be an arcade game where you drove your boat around and fired braodsides at the bad guys.

 why...why, oh why?! Your breaking my heart!:nope: Come on play with the big boys, throw away the controllers...this game doesnt require quick fingers, it requires smart playing. The only thing moving a mile a minute should your brain. The sub is an abush weapon so you should be setting yourself up to have all the time you need. The only thing you should have in hand and use with buttons in Silent Hunter is a calculator with trig functions.

Anyway, try out the mouse and kyboard i think you'll find its perfect... welcome aboard, jump in the water its warm in the pacific!

Hi Andy,

No, I don't think you can play SH4 with a gamepad. It's a PC game, so keyboard and mouse are probably it. Even though there is a toolbar for most functions, there are quite a few specific keys commands that allow you to issue orders more efficiently. Let us know if you need any assistance getting up to speed with it.

good hunting!

Is there a keyboard template for sh4? Or is a special keybd? Perhaps a special mouse that works better for sh4 than a generic mouse supplied by dell? I want every edge I can get?

PS how do you change the picture of the bilge rat???

Jeeze man, just use a keyboard and a mouse like the rest of us.

Your avatar pic changes as you rack up more posts.

:nope: no. all you need is a mouse, if its not full of bum fluff thats a bonus, but all you need is a generic mouse.

A better controller in SHIV really won't do much of anything for you. It's not a fast game by any means, and as long as you can move a cursor and click - well, all the functions should be at your fingertips.

If you want an edge, commit every keyboard shortcut to memory. That'll save you more time than any device you could think of!

A Z-board Keyset for SHIV would be cool though. :p

To be fair, a typical Dell ball-mouse with gummed up wheels is going to make it VERY difficult to use the stadimeter. Presuming you go all-out realism. For the 'easy' mode of the game, you are pretty much just pointing and shooting. I guess the AA guns could use an accurate controller?

Anyway, I can hardly tolerate WINDOWS with the stock 'Dell' controllers, so I can see where you'd be coming from.

For me:
- Logitech 'Elite' keyboard (discontinued, unfortunately - laptop-style keys are nice)
- Razer Copperhead laser mouse

Well, I mean I also have a decent keyboard and a gaming-grade Logitech mouse, but I really don't consider these to be 'special accessories' of any sort.

In fact I couldn't stand a vanilla ball mouse to start with, even if I only ever used my PC for word processing. :p
