Be honest.........
Is SH4 worth it, or do I try out some of the SHIII mods I haven't seen in almost a year?
I want it to be great, but I'm afraid I'll be dissappointed...........

lets just say that YES, SH4 will be worth it. If nothing else its a beautiful game in terms of graphics. I am dissapointed along with everyone else, and to a degree i felt the same way about SHIII until GWX.

Maybe make a descision after all the patches are done.
Just admit it you will buy it, your curiosity will overcome everything else. Don't resist, its a good thing. :yep:
I would wait, but that is just me.
The graphics, IMO, are anything but amazing. The sound needs work and there are quite a few other bug as indicated in other posts.
If you have the money and the curiosity I suppose you could go ahead and buy it, but I don't think you'd really be missing much if you waited.
SHIV has a ton of potential, but so does a Lamborghini without wheels.

It could well be the greatest simulation ever made and you're on here night and day moaning like a b@%ch! Why don't you give it a rest and go play your freakin' X-Box!?

Thems fightin words right there me thinks.:yep: Ill probably buy it eventually but there is no harm in waiting a couple of months to let all of the dust settle and a couple of patches be relased.
I would wait, but that is just me.

You're kidding me right?
If this absolutely brilliant to you, I'd hate to see absolutely not brilliant.
Childish insults negate your arguement...which is non-existent ayways, so nevermind.
Do me a favor and come back when you have graduated on to mature conversation.
*EDIT* If you are being sarcastic, you had me fooled..and you have my apologies. ;)

Congrats with that post. Very nice argumenting, and clearly well thought through.

I believe that "The General" was being facetious;)
With all the SH4 hate-on its hard to tell whos being a genuine ass and who's just being fatuous.
The problem with waiting for how the game will improve, is that doing that might cause it not too. If sales are too low, Ubi is going to stop bothering at some point. Personally, I see enough potential in SH4 to buy it now without even blinking. What's the difference if you would buy it anyway in a years time? At least by buying it now I can help ensure the problems of the game get all the attention they deserve.

I think it will be more than worth it in the long run, but there's obvious work needs to be done re: patches and modding. Fortunately, we have an excellent community dedicated to making a good game even better.
I have faith in our modders. :yep:

At least by buying it now I can help ensure the problems of the game get all the attention they deserve. I totally disagree with that on a fundamental level. I shouldn't have to fork out cash today to ensure that I get a better product TOMMORROW. Thats totally inverted. Its supposed to be that the producer satisfies the consumer and that the onus is on the producer to make the product everything that the consumer wants BEFORE he buys it. That I as the consumer should have to pay a premium price for a game just to make Ubi invest sufficient post-production time in finishing it is an abhorration of the so called Market Economy.
If it were a $20 game then I'd buy it in its current form. However I'm not spending my scarce dollars on a game that isn't at the moment worth the price tag. Its not my job to ensure the future of the game by buying it before its up to snuff. Its Ubis job to make me want to buy it.
If I have to live under a capitalist system then it better bloody work the way they say it does!

The SH3 mod community's work if applied with the same vigor to SH4 will make this game one of the best sims ever.
After reading alot of the posts there is a definite pattern appearing. There are some bugs no doubt. Some so-called bugs are clearly hardware issues. Remember SH3? It's deja vu all over again IMO. There will be a patch soon, probably more than one eventually. The modders will start , they have already, tinkering. Soon the transformation will begin. Remember SH3? RuB? Grey Wolves?
I am not in the least dismayed at all the doom and gloom being bandied about. I remember SH3. I have at my side the list of mods Sailor Steve used for his SH3, two freakin' pages! I used it as a guide for the mods I wanted for my SH3 install.
The modders will be the salvation, if indeed SH4 needs salvation, of this sim. I prefer transformation or enhancement, call it what you will. It will only get better.

UBootMan, hopefully you are correct in your assumptions about UBISoft's future support, and doubtless you are correct about this commuity's support for SHIV.
P_Funk is also correct in his post, and his post deals with the propriety of a business transaction. As P_Funk points out, buying a game is a business transaction.
We may have high hopes for the future of a particular game but we should not be asked to pay now for a broken game sold with a promise to fix it later.
P_Funk's right. You're (hopefully) right. I'm a heartbeat or two from cancelling my pre-order and waiting for patches and then trying to find SHIV in the $20 bin in a couple of months.
In the end, I suspect that each of us will grab it the minute it shows up. Hope springs eternal.
Fair winds and a following sea,
Old Dog
