View Full Version : Shame, shame EBgames.....

So, being the patient soul I am, I went to the EBgames store where I pre-ordered SH4 - having withstood the temptation of calling yesterday or before to see if things were on target, so to speak.

So I walk in and ask, with confidence, for my pre-order.

The puzzled look on the clerks face was not encouraging. The clerk retires to consult the glowing oracle behind the counter.

"We didin't get it. Its not on my shipping list. Did you pre-order it here? I don't see it on my pre-order list"

This was sounding ominous indeed. I produced my pre-order receipt, issued at that very store.

"We didn't get it. Its a PC title, right? PC titles, not being in demand, are not shipped overnight even as a pre-order. It might be here tomorrow or Friday."

Note: Apparently my money, being destined for a PC-game, is not as good as the money spent on console games.

Hmmmm. Yet another reason to add to my already long list of reasons to hate console games and firming of resolve to never own one of the hedious devices.

So I don't know when I will get it. It won't be tomorrow becasue I will be on the road all day. I apparently am not even in the system as having pre-ordered so who knows if they will reserve one for me, even though I asked them to again today (I'm surprised they didn't ask for another $5 dollars).

I have to go to Columbus tomorrow. I'm going to check in the stores there. If I can find it ANYWHERE but EB, I will buy it and they can keep the $5 Pre-order as it will be the last money they ever get from me.

No other stores near me have it, or expect to get it anytime soon (Best Buy, Target (regular), etc.

I paid for it yesterday expecting todays delivery. Well, not really, I know how that goes. I will call tomorrow. Funny part is they usually ship in 24 hours after ordering. Patience friend!!!!:yep: Your game will be there before the weekend with any luck. Now you have something to look forward too.

Oh well, keep it light with EB Games....my kids love the store:yep:

Anyway, I checked Best Buy website and compusa. Both shows sold out for shipping and not available in stores yet. We can email you when it comes in!?!?!?!?

I also pre-ordered but with Gamestop (same as EB now) and am still waiting for my order. I heard somewhere they had a problem with their distributor. Its backwards to blame consoles though. CompUSA normaly gets new games on Thursday, at least here in TN.

I had a bad experience with EB games as well today. I went in and pre-ordered it a few days ago and the kid said to come back today at about 12 and I could pick it up. So at around noon today I go in and it's not there, and the guy said they should be getting their next shipment anytime, so I go back home and call back a few hours later...still not there. I'm disappointed...he said their warehouse usually makes sure that reserved copies arrive on the release date and that this seems "retarded," which is comforting for me to hear. I'll remember this next time a PC title comes out that I want reserved..

looks like us PC gamers are becoming 2nd class citzens according to these gaming stores...

I rember when we were the kings of the hill.. now any 13 year old with a little japanese wII gets the latest pointless games first... and we have to wait cause were arnt payin the console premium of 60$+ for a game.

I am not blaming consoles beyond the point that I highly dislike them and cannot comprehend their unbounded popularity.

What I do blame is a corporate policy that implies that my pre-order should be treated different than someone else's pre-order. They sell the product, they should treat each customer with the same respect and courtesy.

This is why I more and more try to find wargames by small, independant shops.

I have checked with EB, Best Buy, Comp usa, Target and several others in the greater Nashville area and nobody has it on order or even knew what I was talking about. Kinda makes you feel second rate as stated.

I just got off the phone with my local Gamestop (same company owned by EB Games). My copy was supposed to come in yesterday but since it didn't I was assured today. Now I got off the phone and they are saying Friday. I asked why since I had pre-ordered earlier in the month and they've had it in their system for 2 weeks. The response I recieved was pretty much the same as above. Console games are now the only ones shipped prioriy.

It's a shame. I've been a loyal Gamestop/EB customer for more than 6 years. Looks like my local Best Buy is going to be getting my business in future for new release games.

What I do blame is a corporate policy that implies that my pre-order should be treated different than someone else's pre-order. They sell the product, they should treat each customer with the same respect and courtesy. Exactly how I feel!

I hate to "me too" but I'm afraid this is just something that bothers me a lot as well.

You know it's a bad sign when you go into the store and, in the back, on a seperate MINI shelf in the middle back of the store is the PC games. One shelf. One tiny little place where all the games reside.

You go to ask where such and such a game is, and the looks I recieve are always so unique. It's always a mixture of either complete shock that you're asking for a PC game, or like you're almost beneath contempt that you would bother with such relics. It doesn't help that you're not asking for a popular game like Battlefront, but a SIMULATION. But...but...but that kind of thing requires some thought on the part of the gamer! It's like work or something.

Oh well, we've got online ordering. Of course, that too seems to be plagued with problems (thanks Amazon  ).

Oh, I'm with you there. They were quick to take your deposite they should be quick to ship it or tell you up front it wont be available on release date. EB has already lost my considerable business and now I think Gamestop is going on the list. If any other store has SH4 tomorrow they'll get my business and GS can give my deposite back and say "by" to a lot of future sales. I'm hoping CompUSA has it tomorrow.

Gents, it seems that Compusa and Best Buy are in the same mode. Compusa shows sold out for shipping and not available in stores. Best Buy has the same. Have some patience. I paid mine in full yesterday at EB expecting today delivery. No go. Such is life.

Now, be constructive about it and hopefully someone will know where to pick one up. I understand that someone in Vegas got one at Target last night.

This current conversation will not get you the game any faster.

I, too, had problems with EB Games.

They still hadn't gotten my game in, so I called around. Turns out that a Gamestop just down the road not only got in a shipment of SHIV, but has so many that there are still many copies left. So, they're holding a copy for me for when I get off of work (less than an hour to go, w00t!).

It's incredible, though. Two stores that are owned by the same company, less than 3 miles apart. One has an abundance of copies even after pre-orders, the other with no copies at all.

Also, EB Games will refund the entire pre-order if you cancel.

So for those of you who pre-ordered with a lot, get your money back if you find the game. On principal, I will get my $10 back....unless I spot some great bargain games, in which case EB Games would win that round.

True. It won't get the game to people faster.

But it is constructive (IMHO) because consumers whould be aware of the policies and procedures that various companies engage in. In this case, EB has had my money for a couple of months and has been earning interest or something with it. In return for a Pre-order I received exactly what in return? I am not, apparently, even in the system. This is a questionable business practice, at best.

The only way we have to even try to put corrective pressure on companies is to identify bad practices and then communicate them and encourage others to act.

That is all.

By and large, I don't think any large retail chains will have (or sell if they do) any copies anywhere in the coutry until tomorrow. I ran into the same issue with EB today. I had them do a $5 reserve for me but they didn't come in today. I feel confident that Best Buy will have them tomorrow since they are showing 3/22 as the release date on their web site. I'm cutting EB some slack since this seems to be the situation with all US retailers. The only people who seem to have copies in the US right now are those that ordered overnight from the UBI store.

Yup. Same issues here in Maine. We have 3 gamestop/EB stores in the area. I called all three. They were all VERY confused. The first place I called had never even heard of Silent Hunter IV. "Is that a PC game?" he says... Yah it is...."Nope, I'm not sure when we'll be getting it."

So I went on over to direct2drive.com and bought it there. It's downloading as we speak! WOHOOOO!! I should be playing by tonight.

Edit: Oh and by the way. All the "extra" content is also provided via a separate download. I'm looking at the cool posters, maps, and pullouts while the game downloads!

Again, I must point out that you CAN get the game in the US right now.

It really helps if you call what can be called a "flagship" store. You can easily tell if it's the case if the store is either:
1. Quite large
2. Sells lots of used games, possibly even PSX, N64, and DC games.

My local EB Games is not, but the Gamestop I called is. The Gamestop has plenty of copies.

So I suggest calling the larger retail stores in your area to see if they have it.

I'm just irrated because the orginal launch date of the 13th was push back to make a "World Wide Release" date, so it got pushed back to the 20th. Now I'm being told my pre-order (paid in full, because I guess I'm a sucker) won't be in till Friday. That would make it a whole week later than some of the people from Europe on here recieved it (no ill will toward those lucky folks). I guess the thing I'm happy about is I didn't take an "sick time" off of work today...

Your going to be screwed though if you wanna play a mod. Even on the Direct 2 drive faq it says It's not us that doesn't support mods its the mod makers themselves that doesnt support Digital Downloads. Which basically means yeah you can't use mods. Patches are just as bad.

So I just got back from Gamestop. Apparently, they misheard me on the phone and tried to present me with a copy of SH3. Needless, to say, I was less than thrilled.

Whilst paying for my copy of STALKER, which I also wanted, the manager also handed me a copy of the trial beta for the new LOTR MMO, for free. That was nice.

But what I found out was that Gamestop and EB Games had their games shipped via Ground, and not Air or Express. Thus, the stores SHOULD have it on Thursday.

But, he could have just had that information for Philadelphia. I'm sure it's similar all over the country, though.

The Gamespot I pre-ordered from just recieved their S.T.A.L.K.E.R shipment in. Since yesterday was the release/shipping day for it too, I'm begining to wonder if it is a distributor issue.

Anybody remember how the old game release days went? Most stores recieved their stock the night before so they were ready to go when they opened the following morning. Anybody remember when that all changed?

I posted a few screenshots of closed beta LOTRO MMO in the "Other Games" section here. I'm sure quite a few people here don't play MMO's but I've been impressed with it. At least you can try it for free for a bit. I just wonder if it's Open Beta which starts on the 30th or if you can get in Closed Beta.

That's good, at least you got a PC gamer. Most of the EB/Gamespots I've ever gone to had FPshooter & console fiends. When I'd ask for a certain game, they often didn't know what the hell I was talking about.

I started wondering if the only requirement to work there was having played a console FPS.

I strode in confidently into my EB games, about 11:15 or so this morning. Walked up to the desk and asked to pick up my pre-order.

Figured something wasnt right when they started going thru boxes and such...

Just adding to the frustration since I don't have the subsim I have been waiting for since early March. Oh well, the game I hear isn't all that great anyway according to reports.(patchs and mods not withstanding) I grew up on silent service by microprose and my imagination did most the work back in the day and it was great! Now, I guess things have changed, the games have become better in many ways, but why do I seem disappointed all the time? Maybe I expect to much or maybe the games just aren't as "fun" anymore. I don't know, but as the guys have been saying, us PC guys have really been getting the shaft for a good while. Maybe we should retaliate and not let our kids play con sole games!! haha:cool:

I beg to differ,

The BEST time to load and play is during a sick day from work, when teh kids are in school/day care and the spouse is out of the house at her job. *THAT* is the best time to play.

For me, getting it on a friday afternoon means it will just sit over the busy weekend of kids, spouse, house maintenance, ect., ect.

If it makes y'all feel better, I work at one of the aforementioned brick & motars (won't say which one, but I do get to drive a fancy Bug around all day long). I checked with the "people in the know," who obviously weren't... we didn't have any in preparation for tomorrow's release date.

And all I wanted to do was hold the box, and consider picking it up on Friday. Doesn't matter too much, since the wife wants me to hold off 'til the end of April (possibly sooner, depending on the cash flow  ) before I pick up the 8800GTS.

Scary, I got the same responce from my Gamestop with my pre order:nope:
Best buy It is....

I ran the gamut of stores in the South Seattle area: Best Buy, CompUSA, two GameStops, Fry's, Target, and WalMart....nobody's got it. They're all saying the 22nd or 23rd. :(

I concur with the feeling of dread and sadness that comes from seeing huge areas of game stores that used to be dedicated to PC software being reallocated to the dreaded console. I recognize that consoles are easier to program for and don't have as many bugs as a result, I just find it difficult to believe that they'd offer the same depth and length of play as a PC title. That's why I've continued to stay away from 'em.

Well. my game is in at EB Games. One extra day and I'm still alive:o. I ordered the game on Tuesday and it arrives on Thursday. Works for me:up:. Now, all of you who decided to cancel your orders to go find it elsewhere, looks like you will only be delaying getting the game some more. As for me, I went home last night and tweeked my card, did some overclocking, cleaned up the hard drive and defrag. Ready for the install tonight:yep:

EB games... at least the one where I live are distancing themselves from PC titles.

I went in there a week or so ago and had to ask "Where are the PC titles". I was directed to a small shelf which had dozens of copies of WoW and not much else.

I asked at the time on the release date for SH4 which was given to me as 03/17/07 :hmm:

Of course I was asked if Id like to pre-order to which I responded "No thanks Ill just pick it up from a vendor that caters to the PC user". With that I walked out the door with my wallet vowing to never return.

LIke any business, they are going where the money is and that is in console gaming. Yes, they are getting away from it but it does not mean that they will not order the games for you. It worked for me. Anyway, my kids have Nintendo DS/Gamecube and Sony PS2. EB Games is great for them as we trade in games for others. Works great for my kids and keeps them off my computer:yep:

Well theres more to it than money I think.

As you may have noticed there are a few "problems" with many PC titles given the plethora of hardware configurations out there and they simply dont want to deal with it. Boy do "you" hear about it, quite loudly even.

I guess they would rather deal with the kids.

I own and buy console titles as well from a store that still caters to the pc crowd as well. There are two stores here that deal exclusively in "used" console games. Therefore EB can kiss my business goodbye.

I went to BestBuy and I got someone to reserve a copy for me when it comes in. He will give me a call when it does and I will go pick it up.

I wont touch EBgames anymore.

Here's a problem with your ways of complaining.

How many stores do you think you can walk into and either make a verbal complaint that a store does not support PC Games and or cancel a PC Game Order that will actually forward your complaints to their corporate office?

Just guessing here, but I'd say 0%

Now, what do you think their corporate office thinks when over 75% - 80% of their money comes from console game sales.

Again, just guessing here, but I'd say PC Games are not popular and not to invest in them.

Now, if all you Simmers decided to tell their corporate offices about your complaints, do you think they would get a better idea of what they are really losing.

I do think so.

I don't know if they would change there focus but it would open their eyes if they started getting complaints from all over the place.

Just remember, the silent majority really has very little power. It's only when you voice how you feel will you be heard.

If you want the power of the silent majority to work in your favor then speak up. Here's why. Every corporate office know that for ever 1 complaint they receive there are many silent ones. So, if we all spoke up, it would speak volume to them. Also, let them know that you are complaining to the corporate office because it falls on deaf ears at the local stores.

Here's how a verbal complaint from many at a local store can fail.

If 15 people in 1 day walk into say, EB Games and complain that they are upset that EB Games does not support PC Games this is what could happen.

That store would contact their corporate office and file 1 complain on behalf of all those 15. End result, maybe a few more PC titles in just that store. But I doubt 1 complaint would do that unless that store manager actually stated that 15 people made the same complaint. It would still be handled as 1 complaint.

Just some things to think about.
