Hmmm dunno what to say but the supertarget in my area had a few copies on an end display. I find the target around here has games really quick, perhaps it's just this area but i dunno...I would still call your local target store. I have had several items that said not available in store (baby shower presents) that when I called they did in fact have them in store...just my .02

Yeah, I heard from Amazon today and they said it would be April 4-12. Eh, fine with me. I have no desire to play this game until a patch or two have come out to address what are obviously some serious functionality and playabililty issues. And that's fine, because when I do finally get the game and install the patches I can play the game with what appears to be much less frustration than a lot of people are experiencing on this forum..... :up:

Be thankful it's actually on the truck. It's only available in some stores in some areas. I pre-ordered weeks ago through my local Gamestop and was told the 13th at first, which got pushed back to the 20th. Yesterday came and I was told today, now I'm being told Friday.

Yikes Nightmare! I used to preorder from Gamestop, until they "lost" my order once. I over heard the clerk another day patting himself on the back for "losing" an order so he could have the game first.

I received mine from Ubi mid-afternoon today while I was at work. I left early.

Even though I had chosen 3 day shipping, Ubi had shipped it as 2-day. Normally I can't get Fedex on 2 day but I guess since their warehouse is in Ohio, it's much closer than many other company's warehouses.

After a fair amount of the afternoon with SH4, I have, indeed, found a graphics setting that is 'for me' acceptable. But...

This may well be the last computer I ever own, so I think I am going to use SH4 as an excuse to buy the BEST video upgrade board available... just this once.

According to the book the ones that will work are : ATI Radeon 9600 / 9700 / 9800... and some "X" models. NVIDIA GeForce 6200 / 6600 / 6800 / 7800.

Since my previous computering was wrapped around 3dfx Voodoo 5 video, I am WAY out of my league here, so... with all you Super-Duper-Up-To-Date Nerds... what should I buy?

I really want info, not a stream of testimonies based on 'you own it, therefore you are stuck with it, therefore it must be the best' ...

I got it a bit ago from UPS and I have to say my fears of bad graphics were for nothing. The game looks very good in motion on a 37" 720p lcd tv running at 1360x768. AA or higher resolutions would help, but the game does look good. Not latest and greatest good, but still very good.

Hmm, sounds like my experience with UPS! I couldn't find it anywhere yesterday, in fact nobody even knew what I was talking about. When I asked at EB, the pimply teenager goes "Hmm, Silent Hunter 4... Uh, is that a game???"

I nearly got a smart*ss attitude, thought about saying, "No, it's that new washer-dryer combo, where the dryer sits inside the washer. Submerged. Takes up only 1 slot in your laundry closet. My wife's begging for one and I heard you had 'em here!"

In the end though, I decided to be "polite" and said "Uh, yeah, it's a game..."

Anyway I gave up and ordered from Ebgames.com yesterday around noon. Requested overnight, they actually shipped yesterday at 6:41pm from Louisville KY. At 7:15 this morning it was "Out For Delivery" at the UPS hub not 1 mile from where I live! YEAHHH!!!!

At 8:45 this morning there was that dreaded EXCEPTION error explaining that due to a "sorting" error my copy of SH4 was in Sarasota, FL of all places :( Not in NC, in my grubby hands where it belonged...

Oh well, maybe tomorrow. If I'm lucky. More likely it'll end up in Bumf**k MO due to another "sorting error" and I'll finally get it by the time GWX for SH4 is out ;)

I got it via Ubisoft's download offer.

Only played it for an hour last night. Went through the sub school and was trying the convoy action. Didn't get too much chance to play with it but hitting a target with torps at <1000 yards shouldn't be as hard as it was for me.

What I do know:

The ships still turn like sports cars.
There's no graduated way to move the periscopes up an down in small increments. It's all the way up and all the way down. (unless I'm missing something).
Everything is in metric (on an American sub)
There's no torpedo video like in SH3.
The text box is always in the way of something, no matter where you move it.
The crew management is confusing (need to read the manual)

Overall I'd rate the graphics as great but the gameplay and playability (from what limited experience I've had so far) as disappointing.

I called IBM to let them know I have a bad hard drive in my server at 10:00AM this morning. I talked to the rep in NJ, I said "Ohh, great New Jersey, maybe they'll soft it with my SH4".

Recieving just called at 11:15AM today. There's a package is waiting on the dock for you. I go down there and it's the replacement drive! :huh:

Installed it, and played it for about 10 minutes.. So far I HATE IT!!
not enough to really make a review, but SH3 and even SH2 I liked it within the first 30 seconds..

I don't like any of the controls,and other small things annoyed me, how about a big hole in the side of my sub, where you can see inside of it, LOL I dove down to about 100 meters, and I was fine. LMAO!!

I obviously will play it allot more tonight, but we shall see how it comes together..

First impressions

Game runs slowly on my AMD-64 based system with 2 GB of memory and a NVIDIA FX-5700 with 256MB. Loads quickly. Mouse get's sluggish and click response lags...

A lot of controls seem cumbersome... Don't know if it's the getting used to it or what.. Seems they reinvented the wheel a lot and it shows for this old gamer keeps clicking on the left side to bring out the controls and of course there not there.

A lttle dissapointed thus far... Salvation coming with updateing patches and coordinative fixes to bring this game in line with SHIII / GWX... The other thing is that we can expect a lot of imrovements with modder add ons.

The radar screen seems a real waste... Missing sweep, and small...

Overall it's good but I havn't formed a final opinion yet.... I just feels incomplete.... More in a week or so..

Just called the EB games in Castle Rock Colorado....they have it in stock. I just reserved a copy and will pick it up on the way home.

Only hope it will run on Vista....:hmm:

The box says Vista is supported.

Installing right now on Vista...so far so good...
The EBGames in Castle rock only had ONE copy.

I may start a Vista thread if there any issues.

EB Games in the DC area have it but it depends on which store you go to. For some reason, it hasn't arrived as of Thursday night in several of them even though it was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. I was able to pick up a copy from the Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.

Sorry, nhall, I was hoping they would! But somehow UPS actually got it right and delivered it to me at 6:30pm this evening :D Will miracles never cease?

I was wondering for a while there, got another "exception" at 5:22am this morning, "A flight delay occurred due to mechanical problems". Great. Figured the pilot must have had his thumb stuck somewhere it's got no right being and it took a while to get it dislodged ;)

Then guess what, at 5:47 am it was scanned in at my regional hub. Out for Delivery at 8:00 am. By 6:00 I was about to give up getting it tonite (UPS always delivers between 1:00 - 2:30 to my address) so I about had a heart attack when "Brown" arrived ;)

Jury's still out on my purchase. Only messed around 30 minutes or so and frankly the graphics suck the big green weenie. At the same time they're also totally awesome. If UBI would have given us true hi-rez support (I'm running it at 1600x1200 on my 20.1" LCD) the graphics would have been fantastic! But right now I feel like I'm playing in Lego-Land. Hope the devs or the modders can address this like with SH3.

If not, then if the gameplay is as good as I hope it will be, maybe just maybe I can overlook the Lego blocks ;)

I just checked for EBgames here in the Dallas area and not one store has a copy.
and this was out to 50 miles from Dallas.

Called MicroCenter, nope.

BestBuy is my only hope. OR, I will just wait till next week.:nope:

He called the only other gamespot in town and they had one....did I want him to hold it for me? Buddy, you do that and I'll name my kid after ya! So I drove over and got it. Makes me wonder who bought the other one in this small town I live in.

I picked up Silent Hunter 4 Today. I didn't get the Super Deluxe Edition, although the one I got has bonus materials. Included is a bonus DVD a really sharp map, recognition chart, a real paperback manual & a keyboard chart. I'm very happy with my purchase.
I bought it at my local Gamestop here in Massapequa Long Island. As soon as I finish doing whatever my Wife has in store for me I'm installing & playing.

Picked mine up around 12pm today at Micro Center in St Louis Park, Minnesota.

The closest Best Buy didn't even have them in the back room according to the clerk and the computer. Even BestBuy.com was showing the game as "Sold Out".

Nothing at the nearby Targets either. EB and Gamestop were supposed to have them by 3pm.
