Having got the game late yesterday,
I have not extensively played it. But after the rather cool poetic start my was glee quickly dissapated when I changed the resolution to 1360 x 768 ...........SH4 was still displayed with huge black bars either side of the action!! argggghhhh
just like SH3 - only NO AA this time - great.

It's certainly the only game I have that remains in a 4:3 aspect! when changing the friggin resolution. "LOL"
I then have to stretch my image using the screens scaler to get a full screen!!
which looks terrible.

I find this rather poor to say the least, and in fact wonder where the devs thought they were taking this "hollywood look" game, I am sure they had thoughts of stretching the appeal of this sim across the board, and have obviously failed miserably in this respect.
I know its been said already, but how can you release a game in 2007 locked at 1024? and simply upscaled? Its a total show stopper for me, and anyone else who may have been very interested in the game only to find SH4 is actualy more suited to somone with a 17" screen. And the fact they did this twice, makes me wonder if anyone at the higher levels of development has any control or bearing the direction of the silent hunter at all. I'd sooner have seen updated SH3 graphics, new subs and proper resolutions to play with than a throwback to the 80s.... sorry slight exageration on my part.

very dissapointing to me indeed. Dont get me wrong, I will properly check the game out, but my happy thoughts are not so happy currently.

This is interesting, because didn't that promo video they put up clearly state the game automatically adjusts to any resolution you choose?

I have since found, after uninstalling, reinstalling, setting the resolution, and rebooting - it worked properly! - although its still upscaled, somewhat better than my first impression. can figure out why it stayed in a 4:3 aspect!

hmmmmm

on a positive side; There are some very nice effects for sure, Some sound issues seem prominent, although I am running vista x64 - so i dont expect perfection as yet. but if only the aliasing worked. :(:(
