Just found out that it will not be in New Zealand till 30/3/07, so the download option is looking attractive.
How does this work?
As the computer I want to install on does not have a internet connection, can I download to one computer, copy to the computer I will install on then install or does it install as it is downloading?
and how does the copy protection work?

It's been awhile since I've used D2D but i've used it alot in the past. If memory serves me right when installing it bounces an online check off your account info.

As of this moment it's still not available for DL. When it is it may or may not be US specific, not sure how they verify that except maybe through your credit card.

I went to Target and EB Games this morning in Mooresville, NC and there was no SH4 to be seen, hence waiting on Ubisoft, otherwise, I would have bought the game and canceled my order with ubisoft

Hopefully you mean see ya in 20 hours of playing and not downloading! According to the timer when I started, it said 3 hours +, but after 50 minutes, it has downloaded 1 gb with the timer saying 2 hours left. Hopefully it will be a lot sooner/faster than the estimated time says...

Anyway, when it's done and installed, I presume I can copy the entire folder onto disc and have the game just like it was purchased over-the-counter? Maybe? No?

Here is what NvDrifter posted about digital downloads...

Digital downloads are great for people living in countries that cannot buy the game at a store or get it delivered. And the limited download and activation thing isn't a problem. I have downloaded a few digital versions myself and can reinstall them on my computer as many times as I like. All you have to do is:

a) burn the install .exe onto a disk

b) install game

c) activate (register) the game online to be able to play it

d) run regedit and find the game directory plus the security activation code directory for that game (if the game required online activation)

e) right click on each of those directories and export them, then burn the registries to the same backup disk

f) each time you need to reinstall, just click on the registry files you saved and no online activation is necessary.

It's that simple. If you ever need to reinstall the game on your computer, you can do it unlimited times. You don't have to download it and activate it each time. And it's legal since you already purchased the game and only keep it on your computer.

I'm downloading the installer from UBI right now. Appears to be the full version installer. 27% through a 2 hours download. 3.9G

BTW.. for those of you who didn't download the preinstaller, you could have had the game by now when the unlocking key was released.

I got frustrated with Amazon pushing my order off for another two weeks. I would have had the deluxe version. Not worth waiting for me, download here I go. After the patch, I'll be playing it tonight. No stores in Seattle have a clue the game even exists.

When I ordered mine, I had no option for a preinstaller...:-? Oh well... downloaded now, and 10% left on the installer... then you can find me below the Pacific.

Downloaded/extracted file in download archive. The only "setup.exe" I could find in the archive was for Acrobat. There is a "sh4.exe" and when I run it I get "intro.dll not found" and it shuts down. There is no "intro.dll" anywhere in the archive so I would assume this file gets created byt the installer? Is sh4.exe the installer or the game?
The readme has no installation instructions.

Any ideas? Anyone else been able to install from the ubsoft download?
Am I being stupid?

Edit Note: I solved the problem and the game is working great. It also patched easily.
On to more playing.

The download version has been widely known and stated as not being 'modable'. Your stuck with only official patches, forever. Don't do it... Seek out a physical copy.
