View Full Version : Time compression and SH4

In SH3 one of my few BIG problems (actually, the only one besides the missing wolfpacks) with the game was the way time compression was implemented. When I cruised along at high compression rates and met opposition in form of an enemy DD or aircraft I would often suffer damage before I could react, the plane (or DD) literally spawning on top of my ship after getting out of time compression. I don't know how many times I had to reload after sailing at high TC, suddenly getting an aircraft alarm, the game switching to 1x time, then get bombed within 3 seconds, sinking or recieving heavy damage.

Since SH 4 involves even greater distances to travel and thus will require even higher TC I really hope that this problem has been fixed.

Can anyone who already got a copy of SH4 report on this issue?

I have not experienced problems with high TC. My PC configuration does not support TC higher than 512 close to land, and 2500-3000 in open sea, but there was no problem at all so far. Looks like this sh3 problem is solved.

Just went over the Pacific at 8000xTC and I got warned in time if there was a ship or airplane spotted.

Great, that sounds as if this problem has been fixed. Thanks!

Good to hear.

That always frustrated me in SH3 too.

just gonna drag this issue back up. it seems the max i can go with TC is 1000x. anything above this and i start missin contacts as in im warned they are there but the game doesnt slow down in time to see them. anyone else havin this issue?

If I am zipping along in TC and I get a Radar warning, TC will drop out to normal time (or sometimes 8x depending on the situation), if I choose to ignore it and recrank up TC and bash on, guaranteed I'll get nailed by an aircraft almost everytime. In this case it is not the game's fault but mine as I ignored the preliminary warning. I've learned to go to periscope depth if I get more than one Radar warning in a short space of time, if hydro doesn't pick up anything then it'll probably be an aircraft and I'll continue my cruise underwater until dark (accelerated TC).

Short answer therefore is: Ignore Radar warnings at your own peril, if you're zipping along in TC.

wel dont have radar on my sub it visual sightings im havin probs with. i remember in SH3 TC above 256x caused probs with aircraft etc, i guess things have improved in SH4 cause i can run at 1024x with no probs. above that and as i say visual contact zip by without me gettin a chance to intercept
