Bartender... drinks for everybody!!!
I just got back from my 9th patrol. Base Lorient, type IXB 90% realism setting. I was assigned to grid AK53. On the way there, west of Ireland, I sank two merchants using deck gun, cause I wanted to save my torps for bigger target.
Reached the assigned grid and patrol it for 24 hrs and saw no action. Afterward i decided to venture to other area, my destination was west of Ireland cause I still had plenty of gasoline and I planned to just patrol the coast line. Before I left the AK grid, I got a contact report, a large convoy position south west of mine and its' heading north east toward Iceland. I set up an intercepting course and found the convoy.
It was a large convoy, with large ships: medium to large tankers, whale factory ship, large cargo and large merchants, and only three escorts: an N class, flower class and a black swan... My dream convoy :D
After the first ambush and sunk two ships I sneak away and shadow the convoy. When the crews finished reloading torps, I race forward the convoy and waited to attack them. All in all I managed to attack them on three different locations and sank 8 ships. Total tonnage was 97,000 tons. After the third attack I lost them.
So I decided to return to Lorient and tried to find at least another 3000 ton, so I can bag 100 K in this patrol, cause I still had 4 torps on the bow tubes and two bow in reserve. On my way home, west of Ireland I got another convoy report. The convoy was heading North ... right on my path ... oh yes.... what more could a Kaleun possibly hope for :D
First ship I attacked was a medium tanker. I fired three torps to this ship cause I wanted a guranteed 100% kill. Two torps sent her to the bottom of the sea...the thrid one was a waste. I usually cursed whenever I wasted a torpedo ... but not this time :rotfl:
Since I still had one more torp in the bow tube, I aimed at another ship, a large cargo IIRC. Fire the torp, and one torp was all it needed to sink it
I sneak away from the convoy and went straight home. I still had two torps left, but i wanted to use it for a defense purpose. IIRC I heard one Kaleun here told a story about a British sub attack near Lorient base, so I save the two remaining torps just in case I ecountered an enemy sub.
Foturnatelly I made it home with no scratch. Return to base on February 1941, total tonnage was 117,000 tonnes, 12 ships sunk (5 tanker and 7 cargo) I was awarded with the Knight Cross with diamond and everything, promoted to Kapitant Leutnant, and my crews received plenty of medals and 4 promotions :smug:
I took screenshots of my patrol log (Ctrl F11), problem is I don't know where the images/files are located. I searched SHIII folder but there's no image file there (jpg, jpeg or bmp). Where are they?
Have another drink everybody,
