Does anyone know if we will have the ability to cruise with decks awash, or will this have to be modded?

Since there is at least one screenshot of a sub cruising with only the conning tower above water, I would think so.

I hope so, since the SHIII mod is totally unrealistic compared to what they actually had to do; but it's the only way, so we're stuck with it.

Given how clear the water is, theres not really much point.

When your up to your a$$ in japs at night in the Formosa Strait in 44, in the black of night doing a surface radar attack, the lower a profile the better.

sorry but no.
there is a " no go zone" on the depth meter. whilst once in a while you will go decks wet. its rare.

basically, you set depth to 4 metres, you surface, you set it to 8 and you submerge to about 12 or so.
you cannot hold the sub at the require depth for that. it will not allow you to, instead it jumps from surfaced to submerged. with the area between for wet decks, being overuled by the computer.

EDIT:
well..... seems 7 is the magic number.
in this pick im decks awash, and able to use the UZO. binocs.

this is tested on a 8 minute run, i didnt take a pic just as the waves came over the bow :)

i achieved this with some luck im pretty sure 7 was the depth i ordered, and it seems to obey that command

So its just like SHIII then. That is a little disapointing.

Q: LI Fritz (9te Flottille): Will we be able to ?pre?-flood the submarine so that the crew can remain on deck?
The crew on the deck options won't be as restrictive as in SH3.

That answer provides just enough info to make you think it will be possible, but yet just evasive enough to say we never promised that feature:shifty:

EDIT: YEAH!!! for the new info from 9th_cow

ok i held that up on accel time for 4 minutes or so.
then had to test something :) crash dive ! i was under in a moment.
now you have got me into a new tactic hehe.

as for crew on deck not being as restrictive its possible they mean the fact that they pretty much hit the deck the second the tower starts breaking the water. (all crew guns and tower)

sorry about the pics, its the best i can do with my pc.

So you could use the UZO but no crew? Well that means that you have to man the deck when you are sneaking around. Decks awash comes in handy when your sneaking into a port.

humm i dont know if the crew are merely not drawn, or not simulated in this situation, ill test 2morro.

set Depth to 7 , your readout will say your at 10. but setting manually to 7 means it will work.

cool thing is the deck gun wont work. nor should it.
the AA wich is above water does however. if your heading into waves you may end up blind and damp. so depending on your heading expect to need a brolly.

as for the crew. i would have to set my depth to 7 whils in the vicinity of a ship. and right now its too late to try :) so ill see next time.

never mind gave it a quickie.
you run on batteried, crew do not seem to spot anything.
but thats on entering a allied port.
that said if your planning on doing a manual attack, going for a convoy, your crew will spot things before you go decks awash.
its only an issue if you plan on being elsewhere in the sub whilst in this mode.
it may not be an intentional feature but its one that works.
now to find out in the morning if ill be engaged by a ships artillery or if it will bug due to my semi submerged status
