Are these modelled? Is there a setting for "Realistic Torpedo Failures" like there was in SH3 (which if you had checked, torpedoes even then seemed to still be pretty reliable)
I'm a couple hundred pages into Silent Victory and from what I've read of the early war (I'm up to Febraury or March of '42) the failure rate was horrendous. I'd guess 80%. Is this accurately reflected in the game? Or is it toned down for playability reasons? Call me a masochist, but I'd love to see it accurately reflected in game. I'm a sucker for realism. :yep:

This PRE-RELEASE screenshot seems to indicate it is indeed modelled.

Also be aware that SH sims always have simulated torpedo failures.

A-ha! Thanks for the screenie.
I was aware that duds were modelled by SH, but I guess my question is how accurate is that modelling? Meaning that if I take the exact same shot 10 times in a row, will my failure rate due to duds be 20, 25%, etc Or a more realistic 75, 80% etc?

Really? My experience with SHIII has been nothing like descriptions of the real thing. In fact, while I had plenty of duds with AOD and SHI, I can't recall having any in SHIII. There were probably a few that I chalked up to misses, but they were never announced.

Lots of duds for me in SHIII (not counting myself) :D

Yeah, lots of duds for me to. Just tonight I had one that was straight on and it just bounced off the hull. Also in SHIII if you fired at wrong angle your chances for duds go up dramatically.

The duds for American subs behaved different than the German torps. In the case of American torps you should avoid perpendicular impacts...if the devs did it right.
I'd guess some impact angle around 45-75 deg would be good...but thats just a guess.

Don't forget they also ran much deeper than set, too!
