View Full Version : Periscope View & Information Console
In the Manual is said, that on the Attack Periscope View should be an Information Console, where you can see what Ship Type you have targeted (easy mode).
But where is that Information Console? I can't find it. There should also be the Ships Speed, Heading and so on.

On the left side of the screen, there is a tab that you press to bring the information console in.
Likewise for the right side of the screen.
Ah there it is....must have tomatoes on my eyes :damn:
But a little other Question: Isn't it possible to fire 2 or more Torpedoes at once? In SH3 you could select multiple tubes.

Well,
German submarines had "fan-shot" controls and this was replicated in sh3. You selected a group of tubes (from the historically accurate options), the spread of the salvo, and you pressed "fire".
US submarines didn't have this feature, and neithre does sh4. Instead, you select an individual tube and apply a so called "spread" to the already established gyro-angle. So you can fire tube 1 straight to Middle of Target, tube 2 with a spread of 2 degrees to the left, tube 3 with 2 degrees to the right. voila salvo control.

Really? Can you show a picture? My impression is that the SHIII "Salvo" is just a game thing. Two torpedoes (or more) launched at the same time will almost certainly interfere with each other, causing all kinds of problems. Torpedoes, as far as I know, were always launched by everybody at least five seconds apart.
Again, are there any photographs of this "Salvo" device?
Thank you
Didn't know American Subs didn't had that "feature".
Also the In-Game Information about the Boats is very very poor. Or is there something where you can see the maximum dive depth, maximum speed an so on in the Game?
In SH3 you could see it in the "upgrade" screen.

Launching as part of a salvo does not imply launching "at the same time".

Awesome! Thank you. Now I've seen it, I have no choice but to believe it.

And you can have all the tube doors open at the same time or do you have to wait for the last tube to fire ??

Werner mentions it frequently in "Iron Coffins" also.
The way I fired torps was mark, select tube, fire button, select tube, fire button.

No, you cant have more tubes opened at the same time.

Thats bad about only 1 tube door being opened at a time(Although it maybe historically accurate?)
I'm ued to having the doors open on Shots just to not lose that 1 or 2 seconds time and make the shot more accurate.

Please! You believe that yourself? No it is just them programmers being lazy or forgetful since this bug has been present since Silent Hunter 3 version 1.0. And has been mentioned umpteen times.
Do not expect a fix.

false.
you can use the 'Q' key to open and flood more than one tube at a time.

How do you switch between tubes then? IN SH3 you had to use the torpedo fan panel to set up for multiple openings. Using Y key to switch tubes meant that the old one just closed...

I don't think so, based on the number of accounts I've read. In "Thunder Below" it seems like it was SOP to open all the bow doors prior to shooting.
In the software I don't see why this is a big deal (not having programmed for a long time). The virtual door translates into a delay prior to firing. So all you have to do is turn on/off the delay on each tube as the doors open/close and keep track of status.
However, if this was done I would also like to see (if not present already) the increased chance of flooding if an outerdoor is left open during a depth-charge attack. My understanding is that the tube caps and inner door were no where as strong for resisting blast compression waves as the outer doors were.
Whenever you choose a different tube, previous one closes. At least in my 1.0 SH IV. ;)

Same thing happened in SH3, but you could go into the conning tower and there were tube door switches that could be clicked with the mouse. By this method you could open all doors at once. Does something similar exist in SH4?
And yes, US boats fired their torpedos individually, no automatic salvo, each tube had to have it's plunger depressed.
