View Full Version : Wrong mast data for whale factory ship?

While on patrol, I encountered a convoy at night and approached to attack position but had to go so I saved. When I got back to it, I found a ship which is first identified as a Tanker so I thought it was a medium tanker but actually turned out to be a whale factory ship. Measured distance, set AOB and calculated speed and it turned out to be 13 kts which was suspicious but I fired anyway and missed, of course. The torpedoes went in front of the ship indicating a too high speed-setting in TDC.

I reloaded the game, went through the same process and again it measured 13 kts. I then targeted the small tanker in front of it, ranged it, set AOB and measured speed and it turned out to be 8 kts. Fired one torpedo at it and then set my sights on whale factory ship again. Ranged it, but this time checked the range on map. Ruler constantly showed that it should be some 1.8 kms from me when the periscope ranging gave ranges from 2.3 kms and more (depending on whether I used the top of the flag as a mast height or below the flag). I modified the TDC to 1.8 kms but perhaps did something wrong because the torpedoes went in front of it again (much closer this time). Dived and lingered to the end of the convoy where I put my stern torpedo (and my last torpedo) under the stern of a large cargo but apparently it didn't do any damage to it. The small tanker was also hit dead center (indicating my measurement was ok) and it slowed down so it will be easy prey for my gun crew once the convoy leaves it far behind.

Sorry for being longer than necessary but did anyone else encounter ranging issues with whale factory ship? I never had this problem, but I never targetted this ship class before. I use GWX 1.02, SH3 commander and that huge ship texture pack (with different textures for different times in war).
