Is that an Osa or Nanuchka tied up alongside in the second photo?

Nice pics and thank you for sharing.

What kind of ship is that on her port side? What's the purpose of those strange hatches on her stern and what is the large cylindrical object on the side?

IIRC, it's an ex-East German Tarantul missile boat.

The holes in the stern are exhaust covers for the gas turbine engines, the cylinders on the side are missile launch tubes. ( you can see the back of the fins just peeking out on the bottom launcher in the pic)

Damn, I was so close.

There's no mistaking Russian SSM tubes though. ;)

That is the Hiddensee.... Originally commissioned by the East German Navy as the Rudolf Eglehofer, the Hiddensee is a Tarantul I class Corvette.

Here are the ships moored or displayed inside at Battle ship Cove.

Woofiedog,

I live in Connecticut, and I try to go there at least once a year - I never get tired of it. It's a great place, ain't it?

I'd be interested to go to the U-505 someday and compare the cramped spaces between it and the Lionfish.

I've got a whole slew of pics of both the USS Lionfish and Hiddensee in my PBase albums. I was trying to get as much detail as I could, specifically for enthusiasts like us, so the quality is a bit better than these (no offense, woofie!)

Just click on my signature below. I also have the USS Albacore (the album is not fully captioned yet), the Russian Juliett class SSG in Providence, RI, and the USS Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum in Groton CT.

BTW I live in MA, so maybe this summer we can get a bunch of Subsimmers to Battleship Cove for a day...

I'm planning a return trip to Battleship Cove so I can finish "photo-documenting" the USS Joseph P. Kennedy and the USS Massachusetts. I'm also planning to slowly visit naval historical sites and photo-document the subs and ships at those places, starting on the east coast and working my way westward, for example:

- USS Cassin Young in Boston, MA
- USS Salem in Quincy, MA
- Every ship at the Intrepid Museum in NYC (though I probably won't wait for the Intrepid to return from drydock, because I think the Growler is still there),
- The USS Ling in Hackensack, NJ,
- The USS Becuna and USS Olympia in Philadephia, PA
- The USS New Jersey in Camden, NJ
- The USS Torsk in Baltimore, MD

Sailor Steve... Thank's.... and must say it's a Great site with lots of info and an Excellent group of people.

timmyg00... No offence taken... LoL I just take photo's that's all. The camera I was using at the time was brand new... so there were some tech problems on my part. And also as stated... I'm not a Spring Chicken any more. Those ships can put a bit of ware and tear on you. LoL

But Excellent photo's of Battleship Cove and the other sites.... Thank's for sharing.

I see there are more than a few of us from New England area.

If I can plan something of a trip into my work schedule... I'm fair game.

The camera I was using at the time was brand new... so there were some tech problems on my part. When I started my project, I went to the Albacore to test my technique and fool around with the manual settings on my camera (relatively new to me at the time as well). I'm not perfect either! But I seem to get better with each new ship I photograph, even though I'm not shooting for composition, I'm shooting for detail ;)

I see there are more than a few of us from New England area. ... If I can plan something of a trip into my work schedule... I'm fair game. Ditto... wedding plans, househunting, etc... I'm flat-out till July :rotfl:
