So what's the word on the AI? Is it historically accurate? I wish FEDEX would hurry up and get here.:shifty:

Today nooneis able to programm ai controlled ships that are performing 100% historically accurate, and if it would be possible we would have not enough powerfull computers for it. (rest of the game has also be computed too)

It´s about creating an illusion for the player that the "ai" vessles are performing
like they are controlled by a human crew. Especially making the ai imperfect in some cases is a hard task for the programmers.

Personal i hope the develepers had managed to improve the "ai" a little over SH3
and sorted out some flaws it had in that game.
I asked some specific question about current AI in another thread, hoping they´re answered by a happy captain who already has the game...

i can only comment on a brief experience at the moment but i think the destroyers seem somewhat dumber than in SHIII this is based on an engagement during early 41. so may not be a problem in later years.

i entered a convoy ( of wich there are an insane amount) and didnt bother to submerge till i was well within visual range, i didnt exactly sneak in either. and ran along at standard speed. the destroyers never bothered to come back and look for me.

a second one the next day spotted me and engaged with surface guns, i was hit ( no audio confirmation that i took damage) and submerged. dived to about 30 metres, and went silent running.
now i dont think it even made an attack run, i wasnt depth charged and simply made 2 course changes and left the area.

i seem to recall those damn things in SH3 haunting me for hours while i ran around in circles at the bottom of the sea.

ill look into it more when i get back from work. as it is i do find it a little worrying.

Yea, early on it should be very easy as ASW was not good... then later on they start to catch on.

Sounds about right for 1941 Japanese destroyer behavior.

In my opinion, the destroyers are smarter in the later years, compared to SHIII. Especially their search patterns once you are spottet

I was spottet trying to take out a few huge tankers that was a part of a larger convoy, took a few of them out, and they hunted me down even though I was on silent running and had deployed decoys. One of the three pinged me badly, and the other two then joined up and rest is history ... :x

A little sidenote: It doesn't exactly make it easier that most of the chinese see is insanely shallow water, and hard to hide.

Great game by the way, even though it lacks a few features from SHIII.

And I agree with 9th Cow on the convoy part, there are so many that you don't have to search long for them.
