Ok was out at sea in U-101. got the radio message to go to st Nazaire instead of back to Kiel. Ok cool. On my way there decided to make a hydrophone check, hit D and dived. going ahead slow!

I was tapping my right hand by the num keypad and I hit plus by mistake didn't realise I had, and so sped the game up. Then I gets called away for a moment, luckily, there was a sound contact which slowed the game back down to 1, and I then heard the screaming hull of the U-boat. I ambles back in, and then, I looks and the depth guage is reading 210m!

LOL needless to say I pulled straight out of it. The moral of the story is, don't dive without due care and attention! lol

I only ever press P for a hydraphone check

D just keeps you going deeper

Many people dont press "p" because they beleive that 30 mts is best for hydrophone checks, instead of the usual periscope's depth of 11 mts.

Be that as it may, pressing D during time compression is still ill advised, what I do is just click on the 25 depth meter and drag the needle as low as it will go, thus settling on a depth of 25mts... it's not 30, but close enough :hmm:

Not looked at it that way but I get plenty of contacts at P depth

From now on, down to 25m by clicking on the shallow depth.

Better still, get into the habit of hitting the "Backspace" key (or whichever key you've set the Pause command to) whenever you're AFK.

And just be thankfull it wasn't the "C" key whilst on T.C.!:D
Once I was sneaking away at night from a destroyer with TC set to 8x, I had the lights out so I could see what was going on & accidently pressed the "S" key, did the sh_t hit the fan then!!

From one blonde to another... don't feel bad. I've had worse.

Ever plot a course out of port, cast off the lines salute the band and head out... only to NOT order over voice-interface "Return to course" ? CRASH!!!! Your nice newly cleaned Type IXC has just slammed into the ass of your destroyer escort.

Ever line up that C2 in rough seas for the stern tubes and fire the bow tubes?

IDIOT!!!!!!!!!! MORE COFFEE AT CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehe, I wish I could go back in time to when I got SHIII. Was more fun back then. I have countless memories of accidentally pressing the numpad enter instead of the + key above it, thus firing a torpedo in the middle of the Atlantic with no targets nearby. I swear I heard the fishes laughing one time. :hmm:

I once pressed "D" instead of "S"...in 30m of water...and on high TC...

I had a similar moment with TC. Encountered some large cargo and sank it with the deck gun (it really took a lot of hits to go down; I had only round a hundred of 88 mm rounds to begin with and I as their number rapidly declined, I began to wonder if it's possible to sink it at all but I guess then the waterline shots started to pay off). Anyway, set the speed to 1/3, set new course and only when I started pressing the numpad + key did I start to realise that my new course was to the RIGHT of my current one which, by coincidence, was the same side my unfortunate target was. "You got to be kidding me", I thought only to be interrupted with some damage reports and the ending screen. Last save was only three hours of attacking a convoy twice during the night and avoiding the depth charge runs of some vicious and well equipped destroyers ago. Yay!

Edit your snorkel depth in the sub config file for 25 or 30 meters. Then just hit the snorkel depth key. I even edited the voice file so the chief says "new depth 3-0 meters". Its pretty handy.

The best would be to set almost everything else to 0x in SH3Commander if one is to leave the game without pausing. For example if a ship is spotted TC drops to 0x. Would ofcourse be annoying during normal gameplay but for those who play only at 1x and don't wanna pause for leaving it'd might be a good thing.

On the other hand I've had a similar experience to that of ijozic, having attacked a large convoy, escaped depth charges with the last save several hours ago. And ofcourse, only to find out that I've left the cpu fan on too low rpm when the computer hangs up.:damn::damn: So stupid. Automatic fan controller ftw.

I guess the Save and exit-button is for those who are paranoid for this sort of things to happen.:rotfl:

A blonde was really tired of being made fun of, so she decided to have her hair she would look like a brunette. When she had brown hair, she decided to take a drive in the country.

After she had been driving for a while, she saw a farmer and a flock of sheep and thought,"Oh! Those sheep are so adorable!"She got out and walked over to the farmer and said,"If I can guess how many sheep you have, can I take one home?"The farmer, being a bit of a gambler himself, said she could have a try.
The blonde looked at the flock and guessed, "157."
The farmer was amazed - she was right! So the blonde, (who looked like a brunette), picked one out and got back into her car.

Before she left, farmer walked up to her and said."If I can guess the real color of your hair, can I have my dog back?":D

dont feel bad, when i first got SH3 i recall playing SH2 i guess it was - i seemed to recall you could press the d key for DIVE and it would only dive in like 40 or 50 meter increments.

so there i am in my brand new type VII somewhere in the atlantic and im anxious to try the boat out. thinking back to wherever it was i got this 50 meter increment thing i hit the "D" key in the map view with 32 time compression on and flank speed.

just after that i go to the compartmen view at 32X compression marvelling at how cool SH3 is over previous versions

then the lights start to flicker and things dont sound good and i hear breaking glass and i look at the depth just in time to have the boat implode at about 220 meters!!

"#@%*!!!"

so... lesson learned.... dive by setting the depth from now on.

Personally, I never understood the humor in "Blond" jokes.

As for Penelope_Grey, I don't know what she looks like but I can say she seems 100% Natural.

I have always enjoyed her postings whether they'd be about Subs or comics.

She seems well versed in many things and if she does not know, she's not afraid to say so and even ask. I think she'll make some one very happy someday.

And before anyone thinks I'm kissing up to her, sorry, I live in Colorado  so no chance for me. I just like her views ;)

Some silly moments that I have suffered:

hitting the "ahead 1/3" button while in port, then switching to the nav-map to lay a whole lot of carefully planed way points and having the boat crash into something because you took to much time before actually giving the order to "follow set course"

Setting up your attack run by setting way points. Lining up your shot perfectly only to find out that your a bit too close. Giving the order to back up your boat thinking that it will do so in a straight line and having your perfect shot ruined by the boat turning trying to follow the leftover waypoints from before

Solution: don't use waypoints, navigate manualy

That's happened to me many, many times always hit the "rudder amidshps" button first.

@Gspector - I certainly wasn't having a go at Penelope, just having a joke. My ex wife was blonde and is something of a legend around here for saying "I might be stupid, but I'm not blonde" in an argument once;)
