View Full Version : Why I'm dumping GWX 1.02 mod

Since installing the 1.02 version, the target lock will not hold. It locks and then loses the lock a second later.
In addition, when locked, the wP says he has a solution but the notepad isn't updated at all.
With SH4 coming in a week, I think I'll just go back to generic SH3 with just the eye candy and sound mods. At least I could depend on the targeting to work.
If I ever go back to GWX it will be the first release, not 1.02.
From how long distance you are trying to lock on? Is the periscope partly under water? Is there big waves that go over the periscope? Those are the reasons, you might lose your lock.

If the seas are rough and you're at a considerable distance then of course you won't stay locked on.
Calm seas and closer distances are no problem for me.
Same as comments above--I have no problems

Nothing was altered in 1.02 from 1 to change the peri lock

The unlocking adds a touch of realism. Kaleun Krunch did not have a lock option on his UZO or scope. Take a peek, re-adjust, re-adjust, take a peek. It was a constant motion for solution. Although the locking from great distances is nice, it takes away that added 'atta boy' when you sink one with the tools the Kaleun had.
In all reality, we have it darn easy compared to the real thing. Heck, we are missing torpedos dropped from planes (FIDO) and acoustic bouy dropped from planes. Consider the unlock function a minor nuisance.

Thats true, and really, I dont mind constantly adjusting my periscope. Besides, as someone mentioned earlier, if waves are rolling over it, as they will tend to do cause your boat tends to be in the atlantic, the lock will "unlock" off of the target. So just be a man, keep GWX, the greatest mod known to man for any game, and keep playing.

Isn't there a 1.03 coming out soon, thought I read it was in beta-testing:hmm: Judging from a few of the initial SH4 posts you may want to hang on to it for a little while longer:yep:

Yes we are currently testing GWX 1.03 and it should be released soon. Hopefully another major update with more ships etc will come later on (probably in the summer).

I think the problem is more the U-Boat bouyancy problem in GWX & constant storms that seem to effect the locking, as Bigboy said: the locking hasn't been altered!:)

Im sure its been asked before already, but do you guys plan on studying SH4 when it comes out, and creating a new mod for that to expand and improve on it?

Far to early to say....you'll just have to wait and see ;)

I've found that it'll lose the lock if the target is over 5000 metres away. Unless you get a rather large wave rolling over the periscope then if the targets within 5km then you wont usually lose lock on.
Using the 16km atmosphere thingo is strange cause you'll hold the lock from 15km-8km. then it'll lose the lock until the target is within 5km.
for the people yelling about realism....
in fact the guy looks through the periscope and gives ORDERS (course, bearing, speed blabal) , so he holds (locks) the view all the time i would guess.
Another person sets up the torpedo.
But since it is a game a balance has to be found between realism and playability. Locking is a good thing to happen. But it can oalso be used to cheat! E.g. super dense fog just hit the "L" key on the suspected position of the ship. If the button clicks in you have a lock and sometimes it does not go away (if close).

I was approaching on the surface in the last escapade. The target was about 9000 away. It wasn't the first time this happened, however. As a result of this, and not being good at manual targeting, all my torps missed. I now would have to return to port in disgrace.
To be fair, I noticed that I had unintentionally checked the 'Manual Targetting' box in the options section. That might be why. I would not know as I never would check it intentionally.
Anyway, I removed GWX and reinstalled. I am on patrol with NO mods again.
Sorry GWX guys if I blamed your mod by mistake.

Visual distance in the periscope is limited to 5K max distance. Anything past that the game wont recongize by itself, you have to force it through player interaction by contsant pressing of the lock key or button. Combine that, with the waves, and there you have it.

At kast, a rational explanation for this common issue...Good man Ducimus :arrgh!:
