I use a 19" lcd monitor usually and a 27"widescreenLCD sometimes.
both formats work fine for me. Particularly that last.
lcd has longevity functionality and less room glare in my subjective opion
a far better deal for your money. but its not like a glass screen you have
to be careful when cleaning it. but I have never regretted the transition.
and it weighs nothing compared to the CRT

...and consumes much less power!
(I use a 19" Philips CRT, though)

I have about month now 19" widescreen LCD, before I have 19" CRT.
No problem with SH3
Take LCD and forget CRT :yep:

Right now they are selling LCD 19 inch for a song. I use a 19 inch LCD and I will never look back to a CRT. Not only that, you gain enough desk space with a LCD for a six pack and large pizza:up:

LCD, my pc desk is against the wall so i planted my lcd on the wall at eye level. Thats the good thing about LCDs they're not big fat monitors like crts you can always find room for them.

Plasma is an overrated shortlived and expensive bragging right.

What is DSP, I don't think your referring to a "Digital Sound Processor" or a CRT?:)

DSP is a common typographical error commonly substituted in
english text for the more correct DLP is it now I cant even
remember this morning (first coffee still brewing)
the one that projects onto the micro mirror chip
digital lens projection no that aint it either
after coffee and after work
Later.
p.s Thanks again and again for the movie "Corvette K225" there corvette k225 it immediately
shot to the top ten list after the first screening have wathced it about 2.5 times already
and Im sure it will be with me for as long as I can maintain a viable copy.
thanks.

That's a selling point for me, right there!
Plasma will give reflections and glare the same as a CRT, and I don't think you want that. Take a look at TVs sold that are LCD and Plasma and you'll see what I mean. LCDs use less electricty/power and give off practically no heat, unlike the CRTs. Nothing wose in the summer to have all that heat from a CRT build up to make your room into an oven...... which in turn affects cooling you computer tower.
And as said, you'll have more room on you desk for all that calculating you do with SHIII. :yep: ;)
Get a 19" as that will make it easier on your eyes. 17' and 15" LCDs I've seen seem to be trying to pull your eyeballs out of you head from the strain, more so the 15"s. Prices on 19"s have dropped a great deal in the last year, which is great.

OMG I almost forgot I had a guy in my car today
who for all the world looked like he could have been
cloned from omara and even spoke about the same
but with an eastern canadian not an irish accent.
so I talk to the guy and hes a Corvette man we
talked a bit of ships and men for a few minutes
and parted ways. but wow not only to tt a
living corvette veteran but im not kidding
except for the 87 yrs old bit and the accent
he couldve been omara.:o weird but cool moment.

I just recently bought a LCD display, the samsung syncmaster 226bw! I'm amazed at the difference, it's so bright and crisp and my CRT I replaced was only about a year old (samsung 997) which was very good and it still is but I saw the LCDs and went wow. I think a part of the image looking so much better is they have no glare, I dont know how or why but I see next to 0 glare on this thing and I have plenty of lights around that reflected off my old CRT, I dont see any of that on the LCD.
I say go for it, you wont be disappointed

After reading this thread I've decided to upgrade to a 19-inch LCD. Could you guys throw out some brand names that are better than others? I don't want to pick up a piece of junk.... Thanks! :)

Mush, make sure you go to the Canadian Heritage Museum too. They have the only flying Avor Lancaster in North America. She was at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum show last year and is one beautiful warbird. And for $2000.00 CDN you can even go for a ride. :yep: ;)

I just bought a 19" widescreen monitor too... but I have no idea how to correct the aspect ratio for SH3. Things look too stretchy width-wise.
What do I need to do to correct that?

Are we talking about the Res Fix?
Or have you already enabled that and are still experiencing some stretching?

Umm, I guess we are talking about the res fix... I had never needed it before... so I never read into it. Can you tell me about it or point me to it?

Here you go mate - http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=Display_Resolution
There are some side affects but these are explained.
Also, see this thread for further info - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=105821&highlight=resolution
Also, it's worth noting that, if you still experience 'stretching/warping' then some GFX card control panels allow you to set your aspect ratio for widescreen monitors, this would be my first port of call, before going through the fix process.

Thanks matey!!! I'll let you know how things turn out. I'm sure a lot of the skippers getting these new monitors will be happy to sort things out too with that info.

Well... the horizontal stretch fix leads to a subject I can't talk about here... but I must say even with a touch of stretch that my eyes seem to automatically adjust for... this new monitor blows the old one away.
Anyway I can run two monitors now, so I may just connect them both LOL.
