Re-reading Clay Blair's 'Silent Victory' for the umpteenth time got me wondering if we will be able to place our boats in locations at the historical dates and intercept ships, convoys, invasion fleets, etc. Say we have our Tambor class fleet boat off Wake Island on Dec 23 '41, will we be able to intercept Hiryu and Soryu or the transports bringing the invasion force from Kwajalein? :hmm:
It would be ahistorical I know to have the 20/20 hindsight to place yourself into an action where no U.S. sub was in real life but I sure would like to try to do those things that the U.S. sub fleet didn't do early in the war like patrol straights that were heavily traveled by Jap(anese) supply vessels. Blair points out that wolf-packs patroling the Luzon Straight would have been more effective than individual patrols that had major fleet warships as a primary target.
Waddaya think?
