Yup. And it was Admiral Hyman Rickover who ended the tradition of naming US subs after marine life with his famous but cynical statement that: "Fish don't vote." :roll:

And how many active Aircraft Carriers are named after Republican Presidents and Senate Chairman of the Armed Services Committee? I would like to see Lexington and Saratoga back with the fleet, not to mention Shangrila and the "Bonnie Dick."

After the S-boats they were named for sea creatures. Where possible the class group names began with the same letter--Porpoise, Salmon/Sargo, Tambor--but, they ran out of names; they built so many subs.

As you know US submarines were named after fish. The Gato is a small nurse shark, known as tiburón gato (catshark) in Spanish. :ping:
