Here's my sroty.

Because I'm new at this I spend time on tutorials. To get used to the controls of course.

The torp trial.

(oh I forgot to mention this, No mods. Gart wont allow any on his computer. And I don't have DVD-ROM on my computer :shifty:)

Anyways...

The first two ships go down with ease.
The third ship, I missed once so I chased it and let her have it up close and personal. :oops: Not smart in a real situation but this is just me learning to use torps.
The forth ship, I chased and disabled her engine. So at 200 meters of distance apart from her on the surface I fire a torp. It missed. I try again. Missed again.
:oops: and missed again...Although The Aft Torp hit the ship. After that it was time to quit.

End of Story.

Gart wanted to play his World of Warcraft game. it was late noon. So here I am watching the boards like a ghost in moonlight...???...
Right, I start playing early as 8:00 AM in the morning while my brother 'Gart' sleeps.

Assuming you are using manual targeting Dantenoc has a really good tutorial here

You should also look for Wazoo's tutorial. A general rule of thumb for either manual or auto targeting is to fire when you're at a 90 degree AOB and as close as possible. Just remember to be at least 250 meters away to give the torp time to arm. Set the torpedoes to fast if they aren't electric, so your target has less time to see it and move.

You must be at last 300M away from your target to get a hit if you use magnetic pistols.

And at last 500M if you use impact.

I may be wrong, but i guess it is something like that. Hope that help :)

The best way to aim is at the merchents;).


Get close but not closer than 300m.
Get your bow as close to 90 degrees off targets port or starboard side.
Make sure your projected target speed is correct. I have found most merchant make about 7 kts.
Make sure your torpedo doors are open!!!! If not you will lose about 3 seconds on your calculations. Also, you are an ambush machine. Let them come to you. As you wait, get your boat into the position that best suits torpedo use and scoring!

I would fire a little before 90° AOB.

Once the target crosses your bow, the torpedoes have to chase the target and this could lower our accuracy slightly.

I fire at 80°AOB for most targets, and 70° AOB for faster moving/long range targets.

there is actually a 15 deg "sweetspot" for aiming torps either side of the 90 deg AOB. Anything closer than 1000m is good in that sweetspot.

To add, try to fire your torp when the gyro angle is +/- 5 or 10 deg from 0 (or 180 if you are using the stern tubes). This is ideal, but a large gyro angle may introduce errors which may cause longer ranged shots to miss.
