What's your typical loadout when you leave port (early war, 1939 - 1941)?
Do you use all T1s, or mostly T1s with a few T2s?

If using T2's, with their stock range of 3KM, i typically load all T1's. Tell 1941.
If 1941, i may load a couple T2's, but but no more then that.
That completley changes in 1942.

I usually include a couple of electrics in case i stumble on a "special" target and am forced to make a daylight attack...Be sure to load them in the proper tubes so that when you select salvo you are able to launch by type..
Hope this helps.

T-1s in tubes 1 and 4 leaving port - after they are fired i use all T1
T-2s in tubes 2 and 3 and all stern tubes

The thing I don't like about the T2 is the short range - 3000m. Whilst great for taking down escorts & other ASW ships, you'd have to approach really close to get within range.
The T1 alas whilst having a greater range leaves a tell-tale sign which I presume in the game (GWX) makes it prone to miss if the ship starts evasive manoeuvres... :(
Maybe I'll just wait until the T3 comes into service...

Truth be told, T2's really arent all that bad for what their intended for. You really dont NEED T2's unless your doing a submerged attack during daylight. I dunno about everyone else, but i usually close to less then 3000 meters anyway. I typically shoot from around 1200 to 2000 meters on those scenario's. So for me it really doesnt make much difference.
Besdies, early war is all about night surface attacks on convoy's and shelling unarmed or poorly armed merchants. ;)

Yep - what he said :)
Actually, I usually did take about 50% T2s (none in external slots though) in early war because I have not had much luck making night surface attacks without getting spotted (haven't tried it with GWX yet - been in late '43/early '44 ever since I loaded up GWX so no surface time to speak of, much less surface attacks, at this point). As a result, I found myself in early war making a lot of daylight submerged attacks against convoys, and I always liked to fire my first salvo of 2 T2s at a farther target and then my second salvo of T1s at a closer target, timed so both targets would be hit at roughly the same time, and I didn't want the wakes to give away my first salvo while I was preparing to fire my second salvo. The second one was usually fired from around 500-600m so there was really no time for the enemy to react to the wakes on those torps anyway.

GWX changed the range on the T2's to 5250 mtrs @ 28 knots. The in-game description was just never updated.

After 42, my loadout is usually
Tubes 1 and 2, extra slot 1 and 2, and all external stores are T1's.
Tubes 3, 4, 5, 6, and all normal internal stores are T3's.
So, if im not using my stern, i usually have a choice to make.
A salvo of T1's? Or a salvo of T3's? Or both shooting the T3's first?
I prefer to use the T1's whenever i get a chance too, saving the T3's for daylight submerged attacks in clear to moderate weather. If i use a salvo of T1's, ill pull down two external stores at the first avialable moment and stuff the extra slots full with T1's again. I always reserve tubes 1 and 2 for T1's, and 3 and 4 for T3's its sort of my SOP.

Early 1942 for me and it's T1s in all tubes. With their long range and adjustable speed I find them far more versatile than the electrics.
When T3s and FATs become available I'll start patrolling with electrics.

I used to play whit only T1's, (shot fast and at point blank range) but now I'm forcing myself to learn how to use all the other types.
In the early years I load primarily T1's and only keep electrics for the aft tube and one loaded in one of the fore tubes (keep one or two in reserve). For me the adjustable speed of the T1's is invaluable for timing impacts during convoy attacks and I like the high speed for zig-zagging targets. The electrics I save for warships or risky situations...though they can be used as general use also.
Later war I use gas FAT's in the fore tubes and one tube with an Electric Falke (with a few of these in reserve). In the aft tubes I alternate the Electric Falke and Electric FAT's (primarily in case of emergencies where I have to fight an escort...though they can be used for standard attacks also...and usually are).
Falkes are nice cripplers, you can then come back and finish off the ship at your leisure.

T-1 steamer fan here, a recent task force encounter in daylight in somewhat calm seas has me rethinking some stratigy. Thing is, I was forced to attack over 3k, so of course the t-1'a were spotted and capitol ships begn to turn but it was too late. And Im not confident with the electrics past 2k ish.

Steamers!!! I have started using some electric. I have not gotten much further in a career to get the FAT or acoustic ones;)
Steamers:rock:
i use steamers only untill 42-43 then i use a mix of steamers and electrics
I must be weird. I load up with electrics, and basta! :smug:

why not pasta:huh:
T1 from 39 to late 40
T1 and some T2 late 40 to spring 41
From spring 41 my lay out is two thirds T2 one third T1
Late 41 all T2 until T3 comes out then all T3
